  • Peaceful secluded family farm within Exmoor National Park
  • 50 metres from the shore of Wimbleball Lake
  • Direct access to the lake and the cycle path around it
Hunting for a peaceful and secluded Somerset spot with a backdrop fit for a postcard? Stay at Wimbleball Holidays, 20 minutes' drive from Dulverton, and you can wake up to sublime views of Wimbleball Lake, a mere 50 metres away. The location is spot on if you fancy trying your hand at a range of watersports, including kayaking, canoeing, rowing, sailing and windsurfing. Walking, cycling, birdwatching and fishing are also popular picks if you’d rather appreciate the lake views while sticking to dry land. More? A 10-minute stroll along the shore of the lake will take you to the impressive Wimbleball Dam. This peaceful park is within Exmoor National Park, so think moorland, woodland and wildlife… and plenty of ways to explore it all. The area's also famed for its stargazing (it was Europe's first Dark Sky Reserve, no less), so come prepped to stay up late and turn sights skywards on a clear night. The site is on a working family farm and at certain times of year visitors are welcome to get involved with the running of it, with shearing to be done and lambs to be fed (go on – you know you want to have a go…). There are a couple of village pubs around two miles from the site but if you can’t tear yourself away from the views, barbecues and campfires are permitted on site. As for facilities, a washing-up area, toilets and showers are available on site.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Absolutely Perfect place for camping ! Brian and Caroline were both very welcoming and helpful , especially with choosing the best place to pitch up our tent after some horrible rain .

The site facilities were extremely clean and the showers were lovely and hot ! Perfect after a long walk around the lake, which might I add, is only a 2 minute walk from the camp site !

The added access to a fridge , freezer ,kettle and place to wash up dishes was also very useful!

We were lucky enough to have booked over Easter weekend which is during lambing season . This also meant we were able to help feed the lambs ! They were very cute and so was jade the lovely sheepdog 🥰

All in all a perfect campsite and some great hosts ! We have already booked a return visit and are bringing some friends ! Definitely would recommend!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: What a great little site! Has everything for a quiet weekend. The use of a fridge is a big plus for me as a motorcycle camper. Showers are in my top 10. The owners were very helpful providing a fire basket and wood at a very low cost.

Disliked: Not much to dislike, a shop within walking distance would have been nice.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Brian is a lovely host, showed us the toilet/shower block on arrival that had hot water in spacey cubicles. Lovely small field for pitches just a minutes walk from the beautiful lake and another 10 to the Dam. An activity centre for kayaking & paddle boarding just a 2 min drive away.
A well stocked shop / petrol station just a few minutes drive away.
Very dark and quiet at night.100% recommend 👌

Disliked: Having to leave a day early due to unforeseen weather conditions 😪

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Excellent small scale campsite with a personal touch, particularly clean facilities, warm showers, and access to a fridge/freezer, all conveniently close to the pitches, which makes things a whole lot easier. Excellent access to the path around the lake or access to the water, with only a few minutes walk to either the water activity centre, playpark and high ropes, or go the other way for the dam.

Really nice spot for a calming and relaxing break in the countryside with some fun activities very close by, and super safe for the kids to play and explore, aided by Brian providing bubbles and some games/balls for the kids to play with.

Will definitely return.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: We have stayed twice at this campsite and it's been amazing! It has absolutely everything we normally need from a campsite - clean toilets, freezers for ice packs, good washing facilities, something for the kids to do and it must be small for us as we don't like crowds or noisy campers... The surrounding area is wonderful for long walks, the lake is beautiful. And finally thanks to a very friendly owner!

There is a similarly named site next door; look for a sign saying ‘Wimbleball Holidays/South Greenslade Farm’. The postcode (TA22 9NU) takes you to a house 500 metres from the farm. When the satnav tells you that 'you have reached your destination', keep on going to the end of the road (bear left at the fork) and it’s the first house on the right with an arch over the gate.

Local attractions

There's direct access to Wimbleball Lake and its surrounding cycle path from the site, so you don’t have to go far for things to do… just up and go. The lake’s activity centre is less than a mile away; here you can get to grips with a host of activities on water and land, and there’s a high ropes course to tackle too. Swap the lake for the seafront if you’d rather, as Somerset’s beaches – including Minehead – are around half an hour's drive away. If you’re heading to Minehead and feel like seeking out a bit of history, Dunster village is about five minutes from there, for a wander around Dunster Castle, Conygar Tower and a working watermill. For family-friendly adventures, it’s all aboard the West Somerset Railway for a ride on a steam train (10 minutes away by car) or off to meet the ponies at Exmoor Pony Centre (half an hour). 40 minutes in the car will take you to the county town of Taunton for an array of high street and independent shops to keep shopaholics busy – historic Bath Place is a good spot to start with if you're partial to picking up bits in independent shops.
