  • Monkey World, Peppa Pig World and the Jurassic Coast within 45 minutes
  • Heated outdoor pool, playground and BMX track on site
Best be waving bye-bye to the boss for as long a while as poss if you’re wending your way to Wilksworth Caravan Park… there’s a rather lengthy list of stuff to do in the vicinity of this family-friendly spot a mile from Wimborne. Even before you’ve even ventured beyond the park’s boundaries there’s much to fill an hour or few with: an outdoor pool with splash pool for the small sorts, a football field, a BMX track, table tennis and a playground. Site passes also entitle you to scoot over to a sister park 20 minutes away to swim in their indoor pool, work out at the well-equipped gym and join in with a huge range of daytime activities and evening ents. And you’ll no doubt be wanting to leave plenty of time for getting out and about too: beaches, forest walks, pony rides, museums and boat trips are all within easy reach… and it’s just possible the kids may draw your attention to the proximity of Monkey World and/or Peppa Pig World too. The park is also well located for some gorgeous scenery – particularly in the nearby New Forest National Park and Cranborne Chase National Landscape. The latter is also an International Dark Sky Reserve, so get set for some fantastic stargazing on clear nights. In the interests of maxing out your available leisure hours, the basics are well-supplied on site: bathrooms have all mod cons (underfloor heating, free hairdryers and accessible facilities among them) and there’s a washing-up area and wifi connection. Eats can be picked up at the shop, or it’s a doddle to waddle off to the local pub (a traditional thatched number 15 minutes’ walk away).

Liked: Good flat pitch size with plenty of water points close by. Play area with and big football pitch to keep the kids happy. Toilet block is cleaned daily so all ok!
Really quiet location, no club house to cause late night noise!
Only 5 mins from a garage food shop and small town with good range of other shops!

Disliked: Will need a 25m hook up cable, lots of pitches are this far from the electric.
Staff don’t wander round and check on you and others. They seemed to put all the bookings close to each other rather than spreading over the whole field! Felt busy at one end and quiet at the other!

Liked: Stayed in April half term for one night. Located in a lovely quiet area of Dorset, scenic and fairly easy to access.
Pitch itself was a good size. Facilities were clean and warm.
Our son loved the park and watching people play tennis. Swimming pool wasn’t open as out of season but looked like it would be great for our son to enjoy in season.
Staff were friendly and helpful. We would stay there again and for longer.

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Clean, well-maintained site. The pitches are clearly marked with all facilities nearby. Plenty of open space for children to play ball games and there is a nice play park.

Toilets and showers were clean and well looked after.

Lovely little shop selling all the essentials.

When staff were made aware of disruptive site users, they acted quickly to solve the issues.

Disliked: Showers were temperamental in terms of temperature.

Liked: Very well organised arrival system. Lovely big clean site with great facilities.

Disliked: Needs a path off the main road to allow walkers to get to footpaths on route to Wimborne. Prohibited items should be policed I.e scooters, dogs on leads at all times.

Liked: The peace and tranquility in the park and the friendly atmosphere with everyone we met. The showers/toilets were spotless, the facilities generally were well maintained and conveniently placed, the dog exercise area was useful and the shop was well-stocked.

Disliked: The lack of a proper footpath to the toilets.

Powered gravel and cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Location was quiet. Facilities were good. Liked the fact we just drove to our designated pitch no checking required as done online. Info pack attached to pitch sign.

Disliked: Hard standing pitches didn't go right to road so had to walk and drive through mud to get off pitch. Not sure these pitches work as hardstanding all year round.

Local attractions

Hold on to your hats, folks: the staff on site have many suggestions for a day out round these parts. Beach days, for starters – on the sandy stretch in Bournemouth perhaps, or rubbing shoulders with the swanky folks at Sandbanks, both of which are half an hour away by car. Charmouth, an hour away, is the place for dino-loving kids to ferret out a fossil or two. Potter down to Poole Quay (half an hour away) for boat trips to Brownsea Island, or drive down to Durdle Door (45 minutes) to swim or kayak through the huge limestone arch. Away from the coast, the New Forest National Park is half an hour away for fresh-air frolics including walks, horse rides and canoe trips. And keep the kids on best behaviour with the promise of a trip to Peppa Pig World, Monkey World, Adventure Wonderland or Go Ape, all of which are within a half-hour drive.
