  • Adults-only site in peaceful Dorset countryside
  • Top spot for slow-paced getaways
  • 30-minute drive from Bournemouth and the Dorset coast
At Dapplewood Caravan Site, an adults-only site in Dorset, less than a mile from the village of Holt and a 10-minute drive from the market town of Wimborne, you can let all those stresses melt away. Dapplewood is a great base if you want to slow things down with a stroll on Holt Heath less than five minutes’ drive from the site, explore Moors Valley, 10 minutes away, or centre yourself with a short drive to the coast. Back on site, you’re in a top spot to unwind. The site keeps distractions to a minimum, so you can be sure of some peace and quiet – take the dog for a walk off-lead in the two acres of ash and oak woodland or relax at the picnic area under the trees, gazing out over the fields next to the site. You can grab supplies from one of the shops in Wimborne or, if you’d prefer to have someone else do the cooking, venture across the fields to the local gastropub or nab a table at one of the many restaurants within 10 minutes of the site.

Liked: We loved our stay here. We loved being next to the woods hearing all the animals nearby. Very peaceful and quiet and even better that it's only 20mins from home, but we felt like we were away from our busy lives. We had an issue with water one morning due to the cold and Bridgette helped us out without question! Will definitely come back soon!

Liked: Quiet, lovely peaceful site with a very welcoming owner.

Disliked: Bins could have done with being emptied.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Scott, thank you for the lovely review. Hopefully we can welcome you back soon! When everyone checks out on Sunday morning we get everyone's bin contents left withing an hour or so, so if you are the last to check out you may well find the bins look full when leaving yours there. We always do a bin empty after eleven ready for all of our new arrivals.

Liked: We spent the first night in our first motorhome at Dapplewood (unfortunately cut short due to an emergency at home) but....we definitely want to go back soon! Bridgette was amazing, came to greet us and our 4 legged friends on arrival and made us feel so welcome! The park was so lovely, peaceful, and the pitches weren't cramped in....just 5 slots but this was perfect for us...and the dogs enjoyed the wooded walk....can't wait for warmer weather and to go back! 5*

Liked: Quiet and peaceful, Bridgette made us feel very welcome, easy communication of anything needed. Easy walk to the village, had a drink, food looked amazing although we did not eat there. Our stay was very wet so will be back to enjoy the local countryside and this site in drier weather

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: The quiet and the walks around the woodland where we could let our pooch off lead.

Disliked: Despite all the positive reviews which swayed our decision to stay here, our experience was less positive sadly. I was asked to pay up front, although the two other motor homers were not. We had issues with communication, we wanted the WiFi code and it was eventually sent to me at half midnight on our first night..and then it was rubbish. We did try to mention this but again no response from the owner. We then met one owner who apologised and said they would investigate..but no reply. So we ended up paying a lot of money for the pitch and electricity..and ended up having to use all my own data..no sign of the chemical waste disposal and to be honest, because of the lack of answer to messages or calls, we gave up on even asking. Such a shame as we had high hopes. And I am still waiting for my email receipt of payment...despite asking twice.

From the manager: Sadly Sarah, as my husband explained , I was very poorly on the day you arrived and despite being the weekend before Christmas he did still pop down twice but you were out and then upon catching you on the phone you mentioned that you had come here intending to work. Our wifi is complimentary rather than guaranteed and subject to the usual ups and downs of the provider. We would always advise customers of this if mentioned that they are planning to 'work' that the wifi is not guaranteed and not to rely on it although we rarely have a problem. My husband would happily have pointed out the chemical waste disposal if you had mentioned you hadn't spotted it. With regard to your ratings on child friendliness and cleanliness in our woodland site the only area that can be cleaned is the waste point which you did not visit and we are an adult only holiday location hence NO children's facilities.

All our guests staying with is for the first time settle 14 days in advance for Christmas, new year and Easter bookings.

At Dapplewood, at least two of those are within easy reach – Highcliffe, Bournemouth and Sandbanks beaches are each within 40 minutes’ drive of the site, and are top spots for watersports, sailing and visits to the stunning coast. At Dapplewood, you’re well placed for exploration of this part of the country. There are plenty of cycling routes passing close to the site – take your pick and follow it around historic sites, soaking in the scenic Dorset countryside. Let yourself be transported back in time with a trip to the stunning Kingston Lacy, 15 minutes from Dapplewood, where you can poke around the Egyptian artefacts, wander through the Japanese Gardens and imagine what it must feel like to have an IOU from a king. There are loads more stately piles close to the site, including Little Clarendon, Mompesson House, Max Gate and Mottisfont. History enthusiasts who are craving a little more can see the Cerne Abbas Giant hillside carving and Stonehenge, both less than an hour from the site. The shops, theatres, restaurants, museums and galleries of Bournemouth are 30 minutes away – Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and the Oceanarium are must-sees, and the more adventurous might like to try the climbing walls, vertical drop slide and ziplines at the Bournemouth Pier.
