Sandyholme holiday park
Back-to-basics bell tent meadow

  • Peaceful family park on the edge of Owermoigne and Moreton villages
  • A 15-minute drive to Jurassic Coast; 20 minutes to Weymouth
  • Play area, picnic area and wildlife pond on site
‘See, that’s how good little ducklings do it,’ you can say hopefully to the kids as they watch the baby birds obediently waddle after mum around the park: Sandyholme Holiday Park’s (fenced) wildlife pond with its flocks of geese and ducks is a big favourite with ducklings of all ages. As is the peaceful location and the chilled atmosphere, as you let any thoughts of work roll away from you like water off a duck’s back… The park is tucked in a secluded location on the edge of the villages of Owermoigne and Moreton, surrounded by trees and with the Tadnoll Brook river flowing past the park. The amenities are equally excellent here, too: clean showers and toilets, a play area, a picnic area and a playing field are all on site, as is a reception area with a small shop. While you're up at reception, have a chat with the friendly, knowledgeable staff for info on walks and things to do nearby for the whole family – this is a handy location for visiting the Isle of Purbeck and Jurassic Coast, so they may well point you towards the likes of Corfe Castle, Durdle Door and the beaches at Ringstead Bay or Weymouth. Country pubs, farm shops and nature reserves are all nearby too, so feel free to take tips on those too. Guests at Sandyholme can also use the facilities at fellow West Dorset Leisure Holidays site Highlands End Holiday Park 18 miles west for a small charge: take your pick from an indoor pool, sauna/steam room or pitch and putt, before getting your beaks twitching at the meals in the family bar.

Meadow primitive grass campsite

Liked: One of the best campsites I’ve stayed on, facilities were great, showers were lovely and hot and very clean. Tent pitches were spaced a good distance apart and felt very secluded, not overlooked or exposed at all and staff very friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to go back.

Meadow primitive grass campsite

Liked: Everything - no faults! Campsite was clean and easily accessible, on-site shop with the essentials which was useful for bits we’d forgotten in our shop. Toilets and showers were clean and well set up, never felt like there wasn’t enough. Everyone respected everyone’s space and curfew. Very close to Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door (~15 min) and Weymouth (~20 min)

Disliked: Floor in toilets and showers was a bit muddy due to the weather but to be expected, so not an issue

From the manager: What amazing photos, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and found everything to your liking.

Local attractions

Go a-roamin’ to Dorchester’s Roman Amphitheatre or the Roman townhouse remains, get your toes wet or go fishing at seaside resorts Charmouth, Lyme Regis and West Bay, get energetic with easily accessible golfing, fishing, scuba diving and sailing... take in the views of Golden Cap and the island of Portland from Chesil Bank and West Bay, or just pack a picnic and explore Dorset’s World Heritage Jurassic Coast… there are walks and trails all around the countryside surrounding Sandyholme to find the perfect chill out spot. Savvy shoppers should make a stroll around Bridport a top tick on the shopping list: this market town has some of the widest streets in England and has had an outdoor Saturday market since permish was granted by Liz the First way back in the 16th-century. Beaminster, Dorchester and Sherborne are good additional options for maxing out the credit cards with handcrafted goodies and shops to suit all tastes and budgets. The seaside town of Weymouth is just one of many to spend a day or afternoon in, following in the watery steps of George III who came here 14 times in the hope that a Weymouth dip would cure his bouts of insanity (alas, it didn’t, but it did put Weymouth on the map as a top tourist destination: go see).
