  • Woodland campsite on Dorset's Isle of Purbeck peninsula
  • Between Corfe Castle and Studland (both 10 minutes' drive)
  • Dogs on leads welcome; firepits allowed and available for hire
Surrounded by woodland and set deep in the Dorset countryside, Burnbake Campsite Corfe Castle is set up for quiet outdoor retreats in the rural South West of England. The pitches here are in two fields, one of which is spacious and open while the other, smaller area is surrounded by trees, allowing you to pitch up in a more secluded area (the latter is also nearer the main facilities block). With lots of wildlife and a brook running through it, the site is also home to good facilities, including well-maintained toilets, showers and laundry machines. Well-behaved dogs are welcome at no extra cost (but keep them on leads, please), and you can light fires in firepits or other containers off the ground as long as the weather conditions make it safe to do so (a limited number of firepits are also available to hire). If you find yourself arriving late and miss the site team, simply head to reception (where a site map on the door will show you where to pitch up) and then return to check in the next morning. Burnbake Campsite Corfe Castle is within a 10-minute drive of both Corfe Castle and Studland – handy if you want to visit a pub, tea room or food shop.

What customers say

This large, well-kept campsite boasts a beautiful woodland setting with roomy pitches. Guests loved the friendly, helpful staff, clean facilities (showers included), and a great on-site shop/cafe. Its prime location provides easy access to attractions, beaches, and trails. While mostly peaceful, it can get busy and noisy during peak times. Some noted WiFi issues and the state of portable toilets in certain spots.

Liked Facilities.

Disliked Not really a negative but food and drinks should stay open until 10pm in the busy months. WiFi poor.

Main primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Great location, scenic site, friendly staff, well run, quiet. Campsite was well maintained, good amenities and great for families

Disliked Huge bell tents in main campsite took up a lot of room and owners did not always pitch them up considerately in relation to other campers.

Open Field primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked The spaciousness. It is a huge campsite spread over a number of open fields and woodland. Nice walks and safe cycle rides around Purbeck to Studlands. Good facilities in the central cabin and there were portaloos spread around the huge site. There was a reasonably priced burger and pizza hut on site which seemed to be very busy for dinners and breakfasts. The woodland camping area was more packed with campers and unavailable to us but the fields were very spacious and great for children playing games. Very nice campsite.

Disliked Nothing

Main primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Good location within a few miles of Swanage, Corfe Castle and many of the Dorset attractions.
Family friendly and has a very safe feel.
Shop was reasonably stocked and priced
Staff were helpful
Toilet/shower block was clean
Coffee and Bacon rolls were very good
Good price
We would all happily stay again

Disliked Recycling centre was overfilling with rubbish at times.
Another tumble drier would be useful. There are 2 washing machines and 1 dryer. All reasonable priced but I ended waiting round for access to the dryer.

Open Field primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Flat ground, free showers, small park for the kids.

Disliked The portaloo’s in the open camping field need cleaning and restocking far more (which didn’t happen despite us asking) - lots of times they had run out of loo roll, hand sanitiser and were filthy. The weekend 25-27 July was rammed - far too many pitches were sold which spoiled it somewhat but when quieter it was much more pleasant. The food for sale is expensive for what it is - definitely frozen burgers! Fire pit hire at £8 a night is pretty disgraceful too, many other sites are free of charge. I suspect the good reviews probably come from the main site where the facilities are much, much better versus the open field which is quite expensive for what it is.

Main primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked We stayed in the Main Campsite which is much smaller than the open fields and has more shade.
The facilities are kept very clean, good hot showers, shop is well stocked with daily bread deliveries including croissants and the Snack Shak serves breakfast baps and evening burgers and pizza.
There are no marked pitches except for the few electric hookups so you can settle where you like and groups can go together.
Lots to do nearby including a short ferry to Sandbanks beach

Liked Friendly and helpful. Showers free and clean. Facilities adequate but a long walk from our pitch.
Local attractions fabulous

Disliked Portaloo’s needed more regular cleaning.
Also , and this is not the sites fault, but a fellow camper lost control of her dog (it was off lead) and it attacked ours who was on the lead and by our van.

Local attractions

This site is in a truly cracking location – being on Dorset's Isle of Purbeck peninsula means there are top beaches in several directions, including Studland Beach (10 minutes' drive) with its fine sand and great views, Swanage beach (15 minutes) backed by a classic British seafront and Kimmeridge Bay (20 minutes), an attractive shingle beach surrounded by farmers' fields. Family-friendly days out are easy to arrange, as there are top Dorset attractions like Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre (20 minutes) and The Tank Museum (20 minutes) just to the north of Purbeck. Staying on the peninsula itself, you can ride on the Swanage steam railway (stations from 10 minutes' drive), explore the ramparts and ruins of Corfe Castle (10 minutes) or check out the inflatable assault course at Dorset Adventure Park (five minutes). The local area is a fantastic destination for walkers too, who have one of the easternmost (and, many say, most scenic) parts of the South West Coast Path just a few miles away. Top local rambles include the abandoned village of Tyneham (20 minutes) as well as the hilly but rewarding hike between Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door (25 minutes to the car park).
