  • Family-run site on a Dorset farm five minutes’ drive from Lyme Regis
  • The Jurassic Coast five minutes’ drive; Seaton Tramway 20 minutes
  • Spacious pitches five minutes’ walk from the South West Coast Path
When it’s all about location, Cummins Farm Campsite certainly is very blessed. This five-acre, family-run (and family-friendly) Dorset site sits in quiet countryside between Charmouth and Lyme Regis on the world-renowned Jurassic Coast, with the South West Coast Path handily close by as well for the walkers among you. Accessed up a private lane with a security barrier and no through traffic, the well-maintained camping field is sheltered by trees and has electric hook-ups around its perimeter. The vibe is generally relaxed, with no formal numbered pitches, so you can choose where you would like to set up your base camp. The purpose-built facilities block has coin-operated showers, and there are washing-up stands, drinking water taps, a freezer for ice blocks and phone-charging points – but no electricity, so remember to pack torches and batteries for after-dark perambulations. You can walk to the seaside within about half an hour; a sign-posted footpath through fields takes you right into the centre of Charmouth or Lyme Regis, and you get to explore the West Dorset countryside along the way. The return journey is steep in places for tired legs, but there are regular bus services, with the closest stop 10 minutes’ walk along a flat pavement from the campsite.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Excellent location, well spaced pitches with large field space. Excellent toilet and shower block kept perfectly clean and stocked with loo roll, soap and hand towels. Really peaceful and quiet despite the number of campers.
Barrier entry but staff answered phone instantly when called to notify of our arrival.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked We were trying out our Kangoo boot jump and awning for the first time (it was great), and we were pleased that the owners were relaxed about car camping. Importantly the shower and toilet block were excellent. Location was great too, walked down to Lyme and back in the evening.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Everything was so relaxed - we could choose where we pitched (just avoid the electric pitches) and were free to use as much space as we wanted.
Facilities were spotless
Friendly and helpful staff on hand (although we didn't need anything extra)

Disliked Nothing - but the icing on the cake would be if there was a dog walking area 😎

Power optional grass campsite

Liked The campsite was beautiful, well maintained. The facilities were very clean. Easy to access, very quiet.

Disliked 50p for hot showers would be nice to have a machine that changed £1 to 50p! But it’s not really a dislike just inconvenient

Local attractions

The ‘Pearl of Dorset’, Lyme Regis (five minutes’ drive) has loads going on, with a beach for fossil hunting, boat cruises and fishing trips from its harbour and a full roster of festivals, regattas and carnivals over the summer. Those of you keen to learn more about pre-history can tour the displays at Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre (also five minutes), and join organised fossil walks along the beach. Anyone looking for scenic hikes can follow the South West Coast Path (five minutes’ walk) for amazing clifftop views in either direction. If you’d rather admire the coastline on heritage transport, ride the Seaton Tramway (20 minutes’ drive) between Seaton and Colyton. Ideas for family days out include petting the rescue animals at The Donkey Sanctuary (25 minutes), seeing the mute swans at Abbotsbury Swannery (35 minutes) or feeding lemurs and meerkats at Axe Valley Wildlife Park (10 minutes). For thrills and spills, head for the hard-core rides at Crealy Theme Park and Resort (40 minutes).
