  • Friendly, spacious back-to-basics site in rural west Dorset
  • A 10-minute drive from Bridport and 20 from Lyme Regis
  • Eco-friendly site with an orchard, tyre swing and garden toys
Not a fan of being packed in with hundreds of other guests? Pilsdon View Camping owners Terry and April are in full agreement with this point of view – they’ve got seven acres to play with here, but they like to keep numbers low to make sure there’s plenty of space for ball games, barbecues, campfires and stargazing (all essential aspects of a trip to the countryside, they suggest…) That approach and the mighty friendly welcome on offer have earned a huge stack of rave reviews for this rural Dorset site 10 minutes’ drive from Bridport. And there are plaudits for the location too, in a scenic spot with the river Char running alongside and easy access to several footpaths and bike tracks for rural explores. The owners are doing their level best to preserve that special environment, giving over part of the site to an orchard and growing lots of their own herbs and veggies in the garden (and asking dog owners to keep their furry pals on a lead so they don’t rampage through any of the above and clean up any doings). Kids can roam fairly freely around this site, playing with the garden toys and tyre swing or setting up their own games; don’t worry about them getting mucky, as there are gas-powered showers to take care of clean-up time. Toilets, a fresh water supply and a washing-up area are also in place close to the pitches field. Mobile phone and device charging is available for a small fee. Please note that as this is a family site, guests are expected to fall quiet after dark (no amplified music or other noise nuisance will be allowed).

Bell tent

Liked The space , no queues for loos or washing up or showers . Eco friendly . Easy access to some of the best beaches and farm shops I’ve seen . The owners are very welcoming. Also the very reasonably priced fun camping extras such as fire pit and fire wood that works always even for amateurs like me. The spots of shade near the trees that are there . The local town Bridport was a very nice and welcome surprise !

Disliked Could have a bit more shade if there was a few more trees and some solar lighting around the camp for evenings perhaps

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Many thanks for your visit and review. We plant new trees every year, but they do take a while to grow into significant shade trees! We light the toilet block all night and have a few spots of light near reception and in the garden. It’s lovely to stargaze in the dark so there’s a balance to strike!

Absolutely love this campsite. Beautiful countryside, clean & peaceful

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked This place has got many special memories I've made with family over the years and it really all comes down to April & Terry (also their amazing team!) Once we arrived they were very welcoming to me and my partner with lots of help and amenities they offer.
The site is very clean and a positive place to relax, with brilliant food (huge shout to the chef in jurassic pork, very efficient and they offer unbelievable food for a camp - something you'd expect to see at a nice restaurant)
Overall, it was once if the best camping experiences ever and already planning ti come back for a few trips next year 😊
Big thank you to everyone at Pilsdon View Camping, your doing fantastic!
See you next year!

(Also the sheep at night really help you fall asleep, we fell asleep outside under the stars listening to them 😂)

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Everything. It was our first time camping and enjoyed ourselves so much on this trip.
The owners, Terry and April, along with their wonderful family/friends really care about their site and visitors - nothing was a problem and everything is clean, and tended to. Terry even rescued us one night when we completely failed at lighting our fire pit.
Thank you so much - we've caught the camping bug thanks to you and your lovely site. We will definitely be back!

Local attractions

Might you have seen the cliffs of West Bay before? It’s quite possible if you ever watched Broadchurch, as they played something of a starring role in the telly series. They’re even better viewed in real life though, so it’s worth making the 15-minute drive to see them for yourself. Lyme Regis (20 minutes’ drive) is another fine choice for a day by the sea – mackerel fishing trips head out from the harbour, and there may well be fossils lurking on the beach (and if there aren’t any presenting themselves, you can see what other folk have found at the town’s Dinosaurland Museum). In fact, pretty much the whole stretch of coast here is worth a visit, so strolls on the South West Coast Path are highly recommended. The scenery extends under the surface too, with the 2,000-year-old Beer Quarry Caves (35 minutes) certainly meriting a detour. Away from the coast, Axe Valley Wildlife Park and Mapperton House and Gardens are both within 20 minutes’ drive, as are a couple of vineyards and cider producers for guests of a particular vintage.
