  • Relaxed and spacious site with views towards Dartmoor
  • Within easy reach of Torbay's beaches and Dartmoor National Park
  • Paignton Zoo, aquarium, seaside towns and more a short drive away
For a sweet-as break on a working farm, head to family-friendly Treacle Valley Campsite in the tiny village of Daccombe, between Dartmoor National Park to the west and more than 20 English Riviera beaches towards the east. This is a top spot for all ages: kids will be kept occupied at the play area or on all the wide open space around the accommodation area, and walks to the village through the surrounding countryside start right from the pitches. Treacle Valley's café/shop stocks all the basics you might need while you're on your hols, and provides a handy and free freezer block service in case you want to pack up a hamper with bubbly (possibly accompanied by a few sandwiches) and head out for the day. When you get hungry you're more than welcome to fire up the barbie or cook up something tasty over your campfire – for anything more substantial, head into one of the nearby seaside towns for supermarkets, seafood restaurants, fish and chip takeaways and posh pub grub. The nearest pub is a 20-minute walk away.

Primitive grass tent campsite (large)

Liked: Really friendly staff who went above and beyond.

Lovely traditional campsite with toilet/shower block with great showers (a little bit small but hot and powerful).

Beautiful views, even in the rain. Stunning sunset when it wasn't raining. The site is Nnt to far away from the seafront, with great restaurants and lovely walks. Then 30 mins to haytour.

Disliked: Nothing to mension

Bell tent

Liked: We stayed in the bell tent which was amazing.
The facilities were very clean.

Disliked: There was a husky group allowed to stay. The dogs were kept in a trailer and kept scratching and howling all night. The owner kept his van engine idly running for hours. There were no onsite staff to chat with. This guest should never have been allowed to stay.

The floor of the play park needs to have more bark added. It’s just mud under the swing.

Primitive grass tent campsite (small)

Liked: This is a great little campsite. Good ground, great views, and clean facilities, with showers and washing up area, and even a washing machine too. Views over Devon farmland and up to Dartmoor as the sun sets are really lovely. Fire pits and wood are available. Not far from Torbay beaches and Shaldon/Teignmouth. Staff on site every morning.

Local attractions

For stuff to do nearby, try a visit to the historic village of Cockington, three miles away, where there's a manor house and a cricket ground plus some 16th-century thatched stone cottages and a traditional pub serving cream teas. The award-winning caves of Kents Cavern – once home to prehistoric humans – are also within easy reach of Treacle Valley; this subterranean network lies close to some spectacularly scenic coastal areas with several walking routes along Torbay's UNESCO Global Geopark – one of only seven in the UK. A walk around Babbacombe coves and cliffs begins at Anstey's Cove (opposite Kents Cavern), to wind its way along a scenic track and bring you out into the pretty village of Babbacombe in Torquay; take a ride on the famed Babbacombe Cliff Railway, then follow up with a wander around four acres of award-winning gardens showcasing hundreds of model scenes and railways at Babbacombe Model Village. Take the kids on an animal adventure at Paignton Zoo (20 minutes) or visit the seaside towns of Torquay (15 minutes), Paignton (20 minutes), Brixham (half an hour), Shaldon (15 minutes) or Teignmouth (20 minutes) for miniature golf, arcades, ice cream shops and beaches.
