  • Small, well-kept caravan site accessible from the A35 in East Devon
  • Charmouth Beach 20 minutes’ drive; Diggerland Devon 35 minutes
  • All-day café and farm shop on site; Honiton pubs five minutes’ drive
Looking for an easy place to park up the caravan for the night, or wanting to hunker down for a few days and get to know Devon’s Jurassic Coast beaches or Blackdown Hills hiking trails? Either way, The Grazing Cow will work well for you. Five minutes’ drive from Honiton’s antique shops and pubs in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this caravan site has just a handful of easy-to-access hardstanding pitches directly off the A35. On a sheltered and level paddock, each pitch has an electric hook-up, a water supply and views over peaceful farm fields, often full of grazing cows. Toilets and showers are a couple of minutes’ walk away. You’ll find them adjacent to the popular on-site café, which serves traditional all-day English breakfasts and yummy afternoon teas until 4pm daily. In the same complex is a farm shop well stocked with local goodies, so you’ll certainly never go hungry.

What customers say

Small, peaceful stopover campsite with convenient location, friendly staff, great cafe/shop. Level pitches with hook-ups. Limited shared toilet/shower. Dark paths to facilities need better lighting. Good value, recommended.

Liked Peaceful despite being just off the A35. Lovely Rosie in the shop was super welcoming and helpful. Cafe food was lovely, cooked breakfast was really tasty.

Disliked 1 toilet/shower combo for 5 pitches. Made the shower situation difficult in the morning. Toilet was fine as we had our own facilities.

Liked Very peaceful

Disliked The site was unloved. Lots of nettles and over grow bushes. Nettles around the water tap. Everywhere over grown and rubbish thrown about just off site. Looks like it was a garden centre at some point. Cafe windows full of cobwebs
Shower had a key fob so wasn't good for us. Also there was only one shower and toilet

Liked For most of our stay the place was quiet. It’s a good location for people who like long walks, the local village is cute. Having the cafe and the farm shop nearby is convenient also, although the cafe doesn’t have any vegan options. Gets very dark at night so you’ll need a torch. Overall, it’s a good value for money given some of the other campsites we visited. Everyone is also super friendly and helpful.

Disliked One toilet to be shared among 5 pitches. A couple of the families had multiple children so it was a real struggle getting access to the toilet/shower.

Liked Good, cafe and shop filled with local produce. Very quiet pitch area. Definitely a touring spot for a quick overnight stop off.

Disliked No where to empty toilet cassette
Stakes holding the water pipe rotting.
Only one toilet/shower

Over all a good stay, but the site is more of a one night stop over.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Price,
Convenient location,
Clean wash facilities,
Nice farm shop,
Excellent cafe, restaurant,

Disliked Slightly rough driveway,
Although nice clean facilities, this could pose a problem if you had all camper vans and small caravans needing toilets or showers.
This said we never clashed and there were 2 other camper vans there on site

Local attractions

On holiday with the kids? Number-one stop will probably be The Donkey Sanctuary for cuddles with the rescued donkeys and mules, while animal-mad kids can play zookeepers for the day at Axe Valley Wildlife Park (both 15 minutes’ drive). Diggerland Devon (35 minutes) will keep everyone happily occupied driving tractors and racing go-karts, and there are rollercoasters and water rides for all ages and levels of bravery at Crealy Theme Park and Resort (half an hour). If you’re after a day of R&R at the beach, there are several Jurassic Coast options close by. Make for Charmouth (20 minutes) to go foraging for fossils, and if you have dogs with you, the long stretch of shingle at Budleigh Salterton (35 minutes) is dog-friendly all year round. Keep active by hiring kayaks or paddleboards at Sidmouth Beach (25 minutes) to view dramatic white cliffs from the sea, or stroll a short section of the South West Coast Path from Seaton Beach (25 minutes) to the cutesy seaside village of Beer (half an hour’s walk), with more than its fair share of art galleries and a pretty fishing harbour.
