  • Peaceful Blackdown Hills site with two fishing lakes
  • 15 minutes from Taunton and 30 from Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast
  • In a walkers' paradise: free maps of local trails available on site
This peaceful little site may take its name from the monarch’s honey wine, but these days it’s the food in the area that’s fit for a king: about 20 minutes' walk from the site is the Half Moon, serving fresh and traditional pub food with side order views over the Culm Valley. Kingsmead Centre is excellent territory too for ramblers, cyclists and equestrians, with free maps for all the nearby trails available on site – a local recommendation is the longer-distance Neroche Herepath. In a wooded vale in the Blackdown Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), Kingsmead also has two coarse fishing lakes which are exclusively reserved for guests’ use, and is home to a wide variety of birds and other wildlife. The shower and toilet facilities are simple and clean, with no shortage of free hot water. Well-behaved pets are welcome on site.

Bracken primitive forest floor tent campsite

Liked: Forrest pitch was just secluded enough, but near the amenities. Took my 8yo son for his first camping experience and he absolutely loved it. Cooking on an open fire, enjoying the wildlife and roasting marshmallows. Facilities are clean and adequate for the size of the site, the staff were friendly and the site well looked after. Highly recommend the woodland pitches.

Disliked: Nothing at all

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Loved the relaxed vibe of the place, the friendly staff, the piece and quiet. Chilled BBQ and fire pit evenings with a chilled beer. The showers, toilets and washing up facilities were all spotless and well maintained.

Disliked: Having to leave!

Bluebell powered forest floor tent campsite (large)

Liked: The whole site was lovely. The bathroom facilities were very clean and easy to use with a baby. There was a fridge available for use and laundry facilities. The site had plenty of space and was nice to walk around. The small lakes and surround were very pretty.

Disliked: The noise level of other campers after posted quiet times. Both nights we stayed there was a birthday group of kids out screaming and playing til gone 10/11 was almost midnight on one of the nights and then back up doing it again by 6
-7am . It was a bit annoying trying to get my one year old to sleep. The sight also seemed to be in a flight path, so all hours of the day and even into the night you’re hearing helicopters and planes go low overhead, not terrible annoying, but some where quite loud at 2 am.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: The welcome we received was lovely, warm and friendly, site was nicely laid out and easy to navigate. There was a lovely big field (vacant at the time of booking) which was brilliant for kicking a ball about and general running around. Facilities were nicely looked after and worked really well, hot running water at a good pressure. Location was great, right on a public footpath.
