Great views
Great-sized level pitches
Lots of space
A new outside shower, a wetsuit wash, and a sunny, private drying area.

  • Well-established family-friendly site in the centre of Croyde
  • A short walk from Croyde's beach, surf schools, shops and pubs
  • Peaceful site with large, level pitches and communal freezers
Ah, Croyde – the mere mention of this lovely little village is liable to perk up the ears of surfer types, who’ve no doubt heard about the splendid waves around this corner of Devon. Those same surfer types (along with those who’d like to learn the art of standing up on water, and anyone else that’s keen on the coast) should also find their ears pricking up at the offerings of Camping @ Croyde Bay, a friendly site in the village centre. The waters at Croyde beach, around 400 metres away, are famed as being fab for both keen surfers and novices, and that also makes this area a top pick for family holidays. The well-established site is a family-friendly place too, in a spot that’s easily walkable to the village’s shops and pubs but quiet enough for a good night’s kip. Facilities include purpose-built toilets and showers, and a much-loved ladies' dressing room with a mirror, power points, hair dryers and hair straighteners. There is an additional hot outdoor shower for sandy wetsuits, a drying area, plenty of fresh drinking water and a washing-up area for dealing with dishes. Guests can also use the communal freezers and mobile phone charging points. As for the local area, it’s not all about Croyde: Putsborough beach (another corker) is also within walking distance, and it’s a couple of miles to Saunton for more sandy times and a gorgeous golf course.

What customers say

Super clean site, modern showers with hairdryers/freezers. Great location for walking to Croyde village/beach. Friendly staff. Mostly peaceful, though some noted traffic noise. Minor issues: occasional facility queues, wish for warmer showers.

Emily L.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Toilets and showers

Disliked Staff and the ban on music and not being allowed to park near your pitch to unload or pack up

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Emily, We make it abundantly clear at booking and at check-in that music is not permitted at any time on our campsite.
Having to ask guests to turn off their music repeatedly is not what we want, as it clearly can result in animosity towards our staff.
"No Music" is our well-advertised USP; guests love it, and it reportedly makes their camping trip much more in tune with nature and their fellow campers. We specialise in creating a peaceful family vibe, rather than a party atmosphere. Respect for one's surroundings and one's fellow campers is paramount at camping@croydebay.
There is a dedicated parking space adjacent to every pitch or (in a handful of pitches, as with your booking) 7 yards away.
I am quite sure that a 1 out of 10 score is unjustified.
I do hope you can give us another chance one day.
For now, please accept my assurance that I take all feedback as a way to improve.

Power optional grass campervan, trailer tent or tent campsite

Liked Clean, quiet campsite. Facilities are excellent.

Disliked We were put next to a large group (7 or 8 tents) of some friendship group. They dominated the area and let there kids run feral with little consideration for other neighbouring campers. Unfortunately you can’t control this type of attitude. Even with this I would give the campsite 5 out of 5.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Ian,
I really do appreciate your honest feedback. School holidays for us are a very busy time, and as you say, people will be people, and it's hard to fathom. That said, you know I keep a fairly tight ship and look out for bad behaviour. Please email me next time so I can find you a quieter pitch.
See you again soon.
Stu.

Power optional gravel RV campsite (maximum 7 metres)

Liked Peace and quiet on the site which is why we booked this site.

Disliked On a corner pitch by the tap and washrooms so people walking past all the time but it was OK. Washrooms clean and had everything you needed.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks Kim for your kind words. Feel free to call me and request a particular pitch next time in a quieter corner spot. Regards. Stu.

Power optional grass campervan or trailer tent campsite (maximum 6 metres)

Liked right in the middle, good access to the beach and the village, we turned up a bit too early and was expecting to pay the extra for early arrival but the host waived the charge which was really nice, some places just try and get every penny out of you.

Disliked wifi poor

Local attractions

So… the beach? Thought so. Croyde’s one of those fab places that’s equally good for a paddle, a swim or a surf. Experienced boarding types can usually find some good waves down here, and there are shallower sections where newbies can find their feet (with the help of one of the village’s surf schools, ideally). For a rest from the waves, take a walk out to Baggy Point (about 45 minutes on foot), join a game at the village’s beach volleyball school or drive for 10 minutes to the rural pursuits at Borough Farm Sheepdog and Falconry Displays. Alternatively, make it all about the sea with a coasteering day from Croyde, a ride on the beach at Woolacombe or a sea safari from Ilfracombe (both 15 minutes’ drive). The beaches at Putsborough and Saunton Sands are both about five minutes’ drive away and there are some cracking walks to be had on the South West Coast Path around here too.
