Touring pitch

  • Countryside park on 500 acres, 15 minutes' drive from Woolacombe
  • Woodland walks, nature trails, pool and riding centre on site
  • Five camping fields and five spacious amenities blocks
Life’s little stresses getting you down? Want to stow yourself away for a countryside break where everything is close to your pitch? Come along to Combe Martin’s Stowford Farm Meadows in north Devon for a bit of de-stressing in a rural setting: the park is a mile from the main road down its own private drive and is a well-placed base from which to explore the best of Devon. Set among 500 acres of Devon woodland and meadows, Stowford Farm Meadows falls into the category of ‘very large’ sites – but fear not if your tastes tend towards the more solitary, as the park is divided into five separate camping and caravan fields and feels like several small sites rolled into one. The overall size means there are heaps of facilities and activities for you to try your hand at, from cantering around on horseback with the help of the on-site riding centre, to driving the kids crazy with your swish moves at the crazy golf. Looking for something a bit quieter? There are marked woodland walks into the wildlife-rich Bittadon valley, with nature trails starting and finishing on site. A heated indoor pool is available for a small extra charge. For putting feet up or letting hair down, the site has two bars (with evening entertainment in peak season) and an on-site takeaway. For supplies, Stowford Farm Meadows has a licensed well-stocked shop and for your caravan and camping accessories. And finally? Even the dog will de-stress here, with a friendly welcome and a spacious dog-walking area on site…

Liked: The site itself is beautifully maintained with lovely walks around it. The facilities would be perfect if they were open.

Disliked: We arrived for the bank holiday weekend hoping for a relaxing stay and NO COOKING. We were unprepared for a bar that wasn't serving food and a small shop that had very little actual food but lots of camping equipment. Also, no where to walk to for miles that served food. The sites chip shop was shut. The pool was shut.

Liked: Beautiful site

Disliked: Nowhere open until 3 to sit down. Pool closed for an hour 2-3 ??? Chip shop doesn't open until May???
Crazy golf, concrete, so impossible to play??? Friends booked 3 bed caravan with veranda, this option was not available once they arrived??? Only 2 bed or no veranda. They had to choose.
Won't be back.

Liked: Facilities is clean, shower is okay ( can be more hot)

Disliked: I had never seen a campsite where check-in is at 4:00 PM and check-out is at 10:00 AM. We went during school holidays, and the pool is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. We arrived on Saturday, but they didn’t let us use the pool because we hadn’t made a reservation. So, we only used the pool on Sunday since it was closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Liked: Family of 3 and a dog.
we really enjoyed our time staying here, we stayed in field 3 which was close to all the amenities. The weather also helped as it was sunny every day. The bathrooms were really clean and checked throughout the day, the staff were all friendly and very helpful.

Disliked: This isn't a dislike but my son went to the arcade and the tickets weren't working on one of the machines he was playing on and wasn't able to change his tickets.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: The site was beautiful and really good size pitches. Friendly staff on arrival. Toilets clean and well looked after.

Disliked: The only thing that marked our score down to 4 stars was that we found the showers clean and tidy but the water took a long time to warm up and still not get hot enough for a good shower. It also continually switched on and off sometimes coming out cold.

Local attractions

The highlights of north Devon are a pebble throw away, with Combe Martin on the doorstep and the famed harbour and seafront of Ilfracombe a few miles away (if you forget your wetsuit, the clever sorts at Stowford sell them in the on-site shop). Take little monsters to the animatronic dinosaurs, train ride and 250 species of wildlife at Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park where they can help feed the lions or see the birds of prey, or along to Exmoor Zoo for yet more specis to see. Not thrilling enough? Let them see stars at the Milky Way Adventure Park with the tallest rollercoaster in Devon, or whirl about the rides and play areas of The Big Sheep.
