  • Camping in the grounds of a former WW2 Spitfire base in Cornwall
  • Five minutes' drive from Perranporth; Newquay 20 minutes
  • Parachuting, flying lessons, skid car training and archery
Buckle up for adventure on land, sea and in the air at Spitfire Park, a 400-acre former RAF Spitfire base just off the South West Coast Path near Perranporth, Cornwall. With spacious grassy pitches for camping in a field next to an old control tower, this site has all sorts of adventurous activities to try out. During your stay, depending on when you're here, options may include parachuting, flying lessons, skid car training, archery, pistol shooting and hangliding; there are also dual-control cars where the over-12s can learn to drive in a safe and laidback environment. Activities aside, this is a handy place to park yourself: there are modern toilets, showers and washing-up areas for guests to use, as well as a café and a playground. The coast is within easy walking distance and the closest sandy beach is a five-minute drive down the road in Perranporth. After soaking up some sunshine by the water, head into the town centre for supermarkets, pubs, cafés and souvenir shops. Want to leave the car at home? You can also travel between the site and Perranporth by bus.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Beautiful sunset.

Disliked Truly awful toilets and shower facilities. Two toilets for the ladies, absolutely filthy, stayed two nights, they were only cleaned once, one toilet did not flush for most of the time leaving one working toilet. The shower floor was muddy. Bins completely overflowing. Pitches delimited so when we arrived some people had pitched with gaps too small to pitch up in, had to pitch practically on end of row too close to another tent. Very noisy on site in middle of the night and no signs to restrict speed so some campers driving too fast around the site. Access is along a narrow road and entrance is not clear

Primitive grass campsite

Liked I liked that you could pitch up anywhere, great for bigger groups. The breakfast was really nice and came out quickly. Nice little park and goal for the kids.

Disliked The entrance to the campsite is the same as the driving/skydiving experiences so we had to wait awhile. It was a busy weekend but the the toilets and shower where not kept on top of. No toilet roll at times and unclean.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Flat pitches, could choose your own pitch. A lovely spot, we enjoyed visiting Perranporth and St Agnes.

Disliked Bathroom facilities really let the site down. Toilets blocked, no sanitary bins and showers were a trickle. The facilities could not accommodate the number of campers.

Recommend to friends Visit again

Poor signage, poor facilities, packed in like sardines. Noisy.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite (small)

Liked Not very much at all I'm afraid.

Disliked Noise went on all night, crowds because they pack them in. Lack of working toilets, dirty showers.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Site didn’t give allocated pitches so it was great that we could pitch up wherever we wanted, especially as a big group of us.

Disliked Facilities were absolutely horrendous! Not enough showers or toilets to accommodate the whole site. There were times when the site had no water at all, and when it did, the water would trickle out of the showers. Toilets were very rarely cleaned and constantly ran out of toilet roll.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Really enjoyed our stay.
When signing in we was welcomed & information given. Quick and simple. (Great)
Toilets/shower's were clean.
The whole pitch area was clean & free of rubbish (looked after)
Air strip was great to watch planes, if your chilling by the tent.
While there they had a car driving day (again great to watch some beautiful cars race around on Air strip)
Evening/night noise was respectful. Felt safe on site.
Beaches & shops are not far at all.

Disliked Nothing! Great all round.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite (small)

Liked Very nice place to stay - very relaxed laid back vibe.. Great if your an aircraft enthusiast, plenty of light aircraft bobbing about as the campsite is adjacent to to the airfield - it was a spitfire base back in WW2
(It’s not noisy from the aircraft’s I thought I’d add just in case due to it’s not flood lit or anything so mainly daylight flyers so it all quietens off at dusk)

Disliked Nothing

Local attractions

If nothing can beat a day at the beach, Spitfire Park has you covered: Perranporth's spacious beach is a five-minute drive down the road and has miles of golden sands, grass-topped dunes and a pretty seaside village next to it full of cafés and bars. Other resorts like Newquay (20 minutes) and Padstow (40 minutes) are also easily within your reach, as are spots on Cornwall's southern coast like Falmouth (40 minutes). You won't be scratching your head looking for family-friendly days out in this part of the world, as there are lots of kid-pleasing options about for you to choose from: Lappa Valley (20 minutes) with its vintage miniature railway, boating lake and mini golf is a more laidback pick, while for kids with endless energy there's also Camel Creek Adventure Park (40 minutes). Finding out about the local area is a breeze at the Royal Cornwall Museum (20 minutes), where you'll learn all about Cornwall's industrial heritage. For some natural history instead, Cornwall is well-known for its wealth of gardens – if you only have time to see one during your trip, make it the Eden Project (45 minutes).
