  • Peaceful family-friendly site on a Cornwall working farm
  • Two miles from the Eden Project: arrange personal guided tours on site
  • Landscaped wildlife haven, pond and summer storytelling/pasty nights
A wildlife haven half a mile from the Cornish coast with easy access to famed destinations like Fowey, Mevagissey and the Eden Project… head to East Crinnis Camping and Caravan Park for the whole heap. This friendly, peaceful and family-friendly site is in a secluded and scenic rural setting on a working farm, well placed for easy access to enough Cornish destinations to occupy all ages and tastes for weeks. It's a 20-minute stroll from here to the mile-long sands, fishing, watersports centre and South West Coast Path access of Shorthorn beach in Carlyon Bay – that'll keep you occupied for at least the first week – and a five-minute drive (or two-mile bike ride) to the famed Eden Project near St Austell; the farm owners can arrange personal guided tours. As it's a wildlife haven, there's loads to spot on site and around the handsome lake added as part of East Crinnis's farmland conservation project. Guests can fish for free (although you'll need to bring along the relevant Environment Agency licence). Rudd, roach and small carp (max 4lb) swim in the waters so it's a super spot for nippers and novices to have a go. It's all well thought out around the accommodation area too: this part of the farm is carefully landscaped and has plenty of shelter and colour among its many shrubs and flowers near a backdrop of tall pine and fir trees. Previous guests have raved about the many fab features of this splendid little site – bag a break here to find them out for yourself. The free storytelling and pasty evenings held weekly during Whitsun and summer school holidays may have something to do with it…

Liked .

Disliked Evening meals had stopped for the season on the day I arrived which wasn't mentioned when I booked.
Owing to the bad weather, my tent leaked and had to be thrown away but enquiring regarding a Yurt or other accommodation for another single night I felt was inflexible with a minimum cost of £90 and no refund on my original booking!
Only Wi-Fi was near main reception.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to review our site during your stay and giving us an incredible 4/10. As you can imagine we were very disappointed to read this when the team work so hard to make sure the site is always performing at the highest level for our guests no matter what time of season.
Basically, it seems to us that we have been given a bad review as your tent leaked. We are not too sure why this justifies such a low rating, when we go above and beyond with site appearance, cleanliness, customer service, information and general guest experience.
In future maybe checking a tent is up to a camping trip in advance, would make sure you have a more pleasurable experience, rather than blaming the site you are staying on and requesting a refund?
In terms of you then wanting a stay in a glamping pod, at £90 per night when we provide bed linen, a welcome pack, fire wood, kindling and then have to clean it, this is a really good deal especially for the end of August/early Sept.
Let me address your other point regarding the seasonal shop, which was not closed on the day you arrived and was open from 8am-8pm serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is the same it has been for the summer season opening from May half term until the 31st of August and how we have opened from the last 8 years at East Crinnis, which you will see from our website. Booking through an agent like you have here, it’s advisable to check with a site direct as to facilities and opening for future reference.
The staff informed you on arrival that from the 1st September the shop went to seasonal hours, where we serve breakfast until 12pm, but if you needed anything outside of these hours please call and we would open it for you, which you were more than happy with. This is a flexible service we provide so if guests need fire wood, drinks, snacks, bread or milk etc we can provide it, or alternatively for evening food the local pub, The Britannia Inn is only a 10 min walk up the road where food is served until 9pm everyday.
Maybe camping in the UK is clearly not for you as unfortunately we do get rain and it would be unfair staying at another site and giving them a bad score for a leaky tent.

Liked Where do I begin? This campsite is so well thought out. Each pitch is individually placed and flat, with hedgerows inbetween to give privacy. It's a small friendly place, so isn't over crowded. The toilets and showers are very clean and well stocked with soap and loo roll. I love the fact there's so much to do on site, eg giant chess, grumpys pond, giant slip and slide. The food was nice and a very safe feel to the site. We will definitely be booking again for next year!

Disliked Nothing, everything was great.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Fabulous campsite with really friendly staff. Clean facilities and a good level of privacy with hedges between many of the pitches for campervans and caravans. Small shop on site with essentials and provide meals such as pizzas and burgers to take back to your pitch or eat at picnic benches. There were also a couple of family activities which were great; a huge slip 'n' slide down the hill in the neighbouring field and a fairy trail around a nearby pond with 12 fairy plaques to find amongst the trees. The beach was about a 20 mins walk away and there's a Tesco supermarket 15mins away by bike, 5 mins in the car. Pretty Charlestown is a beautiful 50 min coastal walk, and the Eden Project is only a 10min drive. All in all, the best campsite of our trip to Cornwall, and one we hope to revisit one day.

Liked Close to town and well established. Feel like static caravan site more than campsite

Disliked Very very expensive for camping. Road noice.

For campers nothing different from other sites. Toilets washing area and shower.

So very expensive. So that's the reason for the overall score

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Firstly thanks for taking the time to review our site, however we were obviously disappointed at your score of a 5/10. I would recommend if you think a site is too expensive why would you book here in the first place?
Just so others can make an educated and conscientious choice for booking with us in the future we wanted to shed some light on your booking. You have booked a hardstanding electric pitch our most expensive pitch type.
You were on pitch 9 which in total is 18m x 15m making it a total area of 270metres. This pitch has a tarmac drive with a large grassy area, which has private hedges to three sides, making it secluded, sunny and spacious, giving you a wonderful site for you holiday.
You booked on the August bank holiday weekend which is arguably Cornwall’s busiest weekend of the year and therefore the most expensive for any campsites, hotels or accommodations in the county.
We always look at the price of other sites when we agree nightly tariffs and we are very competitive and actually up to £50 per night cheaper than some other sites in Cornwall for this weekend. What you have to realise is as a campsite we receive 65% of the total money paid after the VAT and booking commission, minimum wages have gone up, tax’s are high and rates are through the roof so we keep our prices as competitive as we can with smaller margins.
I also wanted to address your comments as nothing different to other campsites –
-All of our pitches offer privacy with hedging
-We have two large shower blocks with unlimited hot water, baby changing, family changing areas, disabled facilities, information room, laundry room, Wi-Fi seating room etc
-We have a beautiful pond area with fishing, wildlife and magical fairy doors to find.
-We have an onsite shop and café/takeaway serving yummy local produce that is open every day in August from 8am-8pm
-We host free events such as live music, story telling by professionals around a large campfire, family treasure hunts, quiz evenings and guided walks.
-We have a range of pitches and accommodations from self catering lodges to Glamping.
-The site has its own 100metre slip and slide which is open every day in August.
-We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and giving the best site introductions with informative talks about the site and local area.
-We ensure our site has the cleanest toilets and even provide 3 ply toilets paper at all times.

We could go on but we are extremely proud of our site and think we offer excellent value and service for money on the whole, especially when you consider inflation and rising costs as in the UK over the last few years.
I go back to my original comment; why book somewhere if you think it’s too expensive in the first place; I would suggest we are not the right campsite for you and please do not book with us again finding a more suitable site for your budget. Thank you.

Local attractions

To the sands! Local beach Shorthorn is a popular (but uncrowded) place for families, with over a mile of sand, a kids' play area and safe waters for fishing and swimming. The South West Coast Path runs past the beach for hikes east to Par or west to Porthpean. Other seaside spots very much worth a visit in the area include the harbours of Charlestown, five minutes' drive from the farm, Fowey within 15 and the fishing port of Mevagissey within 20. Townwise, sample more Cornish pasties as well as a Cornish cider or two at Falmouth (55 minutes), also home to independent shops, the National Maritime Museum and boat trips on the River Fal. Heading further north, it's 35 minutes' drive from the farm to access the flat and traffic-free Camel Trail at Wadebridge, running for 14 miles to Padstow via ancient Bodmin, and 35 minutes to the waves and surf schools of Newquay. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are within 25 minutes' drive away.
