  • Adults-only glamping site five miles from Padstow
  • Just 100 metres from Porthcothan beach and the South West Coast Path
  • Private fenced garden with a barbecue; bus stop outside the site
Good views, good walks and plenty of local surf spots – might that take your fancy? Oh, and there's a rather splendid sandy beach a mere 100 metres away as well… Adults-only Porthcothan Retreats is a fabulous spot for a cosy Cornwall getaway with your other half, tucked away in a gorgeous location between Padstow and Newquay (both of which are within a 20-minute drive). Being right there by the coast means easy access through the dunes to the sand whenever you fancy it, and also the ability to get out for a walk on the South West Coast Path with no need to drive. Handily, a bus stop outside the site also means you may be able to use public transport for the return journey (or outings to other spots along the coast). Whether you choose to roam all along the coast or stick to the local beach, you can look forward to spending your nights in a cosy self-contained glamping unit back on site. Each one has an ensuite bathroom and a kitchen area, along with a private fenced garden where you can kick back with a drink and cook dinner on the barbecue. You don’t have to do your own cooking if you don’t fancy it, of course. Porthcothan beach has a beach shop and tea rooms selling fresh food, coffee and ice creams, and there are pubs and restaurants in St Merryn (five minutes’ drive) for a casual evening out. There is also a farm 20 minutes’ walk away with food, drinks and entertainment throughout the summer.

The Lookout cabin

Liked The Lookout is amazingly clean and well equipped - we had absolutely everything we needed ! Also, the view and closeness to the beach is amazing.

Disliked The driveway/parking was a bit difficult and having internet was great - however, there was no other signal and the internet dropped out from time to time. So streaming or connecting multiple devices is not possible - but also not necessary on holiday ;)

Tides Reach shepherd's hut

Liked Everything was spot on, from booking, arrival and departure, managed to find the place very easily, the place was very clean and tidy, close to the beach, with walking paths, and stunning views, the staff always available, managed to greet one of them while I was out and about, very pleasant and friendly.

Foxes Cove shepherd's hut

Liked Property was clean and well laid out, with everything we could need. It was peaceful and relaxing to stay in. We enjoyed the fire chimney outside and the great choice of beaches nearby. It was also a bit protected from the wind, which was quite strong.

Disliked The gate at the top of the drive.

Local attractions

It’s really all about the coast around here, isn’t it? The South West Coast Path (right by the site) lends itself to long seaside walks, or you could bring your clubs along for a game at Trevose Golf and Country Club (five minutes’ drive) – just be aware that the sea views may distract you from playing your very best… The north Cornwall coast has some particularly great spots for surfers – both Mawgan Porth and Harlyn beach are about 10 minutes’ drive from here, with lessons available at the latter. If that’s not your bag, head to Bedruthan Steps (five minutes) to gaze out at the dramatic rock stacks or plan a foodie tour of Padstow (15 minutes), known for its seafood restaurants. There are heaps more excellent beaches to visit nearby, but if you fancy a change of scenery, head inland for a bike ride along the riverside Camel Trail from Padstow, or take a wander around the Elizabethan manor and gorgeous gardens at National Trust site Trerice (half an hour).
