Family camping fun

  • Family-friendly Cornish holiday park on Trevose Head
  • A 15 minute-drive from Padstow and half an hour from Newquay
  • Sandy beaches nearby: Harlyn Bay and Constantine Bay 20 minutes' walk
With its lighthouse, coastal vistas and fab beaches, Trevose Head is something like the Cornish coast in miniature. If you're looking for seaside capers with your nearest and dearest, Harlyn Sands could well be the place. The site is family-run and works hard to be a welcoming spot for you and your tribe. Younger kids are well served here, as there's a play area, TV and games rooms and kids' club to keep them happily occupied. In the evening, there are special events for all to enjoy (and a bar is on hand for mums and dads who fancy a nightcap after the show). Harlyn Sands is also a handy kind of place: there's a food shop on site should you need to stock up on essentials. Barbecues are allowed for alfresco dining, but takeaway options are also available if you'd rather skip the cooking. If you need a supermarket, take a 15-minute drive down the road to Padstow. The site makes no secret of the fact that it caters mostly to families (furry friends included), so teens need to be mindful that they don't stay out too late or disturb the peace.

Liked: Seemed quite friendly and unlike other sites in the area it has a clubhouse and bar.
The pitch was quite level for our motorhome and facilities nearby.
Close proximity to Harlyn bay beach (5-10 min walk along footpath).

Disliked: Sadly a lack of maintenance spoils an otherwise nice site. Silly low cost issues like not fixing toilet to the floor, bodge job fixes and most of all not cleaning up! Piles of debris outside where they’re storing materials I would assume or just have started something and given up???
Everything just needs a good tidy up and a few days attention from a maintenance team.

Really annoying is finding out you need 20p coins to operate the showers!!! Only found out after walking to shower block, who carries coins these days?

Swimming pool cost is quite high, £10 for adult and child.

You end up close to others as despite having lots of empty pitches they placed new arrivals all adjacent to one another so expect noise.

Liked: Great location to walk into Harlyn beach along the South West Coast Path, from there we got the bus to Padstow.
Would only recommend this site for its location.

Disliked: Dated toilets and shower block was unsanitary, fortunately we were self contained. No Motorhome service point, only 2 drink water taps which were not near the pitches. WIFI did not reach pitches.

Liked: Camper with campervan, pitch was sloping so drained well despite some terrible weather. Park was good and pitches were well spaced. Wide variety of entertainment throughout the day.

Disliked: Toilets were quite dated and often not clean. Unfortunately others had caused damage during our stay. Toilet seat broken off overnight. Washing up/laundry area looked relatively new and up to date!

Local attractions

Folk in search of some beach time have come to the right spot, as Harlyn Bay and Constantine Bay can both be reached within 20 minutes on foot. Guarded by the RNLI between May and September, these splendid stretches of sand are hubs for snorklers and swimmers, and each has its own surf school - mighty handy if you want to learn to board in a safe environment. Padstow (15 minutes' drive) is a fishing town that's quite a draw for foodies seeking fresh, locally sourced products. Whether you fancy good old fish and chips or Michelin-starred dining, you can be pretty sure you'll find it here. Newquay, a major surf resort, is half an hour away. As well as the seafront, head here for buccaneering adventures at Pirate's Quest activity centre, or get up close and personal with marine life at the Blue Reef Aquarium. Just up the coast from Newquay (40 minutes from base) is Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm, home to both fine scrumpy and cute cuddly farm animals. The South Cornwall coast is also within easy reach: drive 40 minutes down through the countryside if you fancy a trip to the Eden Project or St Austell.
