  • Self-catering cabins a five-minute drive from Marazion and the coast
  • Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens 10 minutes’ drive; St Ives 20 minutes
  • Well-equipped kitchen; hammock; five minutes’ drive from a pub
Those who wish to experience Cornwall and its spectacular coastline in style should book one of the cosy self-catering pods at Cedar Villa Glamping. This well-equipped site sits just the other side of the A394 from Marazion (five minutes’ drive or a 15-minute walk), which puts you in a pretty sweet spot for beaches, hiking along the South West Coast Path and surfing. Added bonus: that sweet spot is also blissfully peaceful, surrounded by tall, shade-giving trees and with splendid views of the valleys. Your hosts Mark and Jenny have thought about (most) everything you might need on your camping holiday, and their modern pods have all sorts of bells and whistles: a separate bedroom with a double bed, for starters (and a pull-out double sofa bed, if you’re travelling with the kids), plus a shower room with a toilet. This is a top glamping experience, so bed linen and bathroom towels are all included, of course. There’s also a fully equipped kitchen (kettle, toaster, oven and microwave, as well as plenty of crockery and glassware). Do you prefer to grill your meats alfresco when you’re on holiday? No problem: your pod also comes with an outdoor barbecue and a picnic table (with umbrella), so you can devour your meals in the open air – before having a wee kip on the hammock, or heading to the pub: the nearest is at the end of a narrow country road that leads into Marazion.

Local attractions

Marazion has narrow streets lined with pretty stone cottages and a wide sandy beach. At low tide, make your way along the cobbled causeway to craggy St Michaels Mount, a vegetation-covered island just off shore. The castle here houses a museum with artifacts as randomly diverse as a mummified Egyptian cat and a piece of Napoleon’s coat. Making the most of its striking location overlooking Mounts Bay, Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens (10 minutes’ drive) combines luxuriant green spaces (the renowned Cornish microclimate really does work wonders…), contemporary art (including an installation by Richard Long) and spectacular views. More contemporary art awaits at St Ives (20 minutes), with the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, in the artist’s former home and studio, and Tate St Ives, which puts on fascinating exhibitions in a striking building overlooking Porthmeor Beach. If you’re a surfer, Porthmeor has reliable waves, while across the headland, Porthminster Beach is more sheltered (and popular with families).
