  • Relaxed family park 10 minutes' walk from Kennack Sands
  • Licensed shop, pizza takeaway, fire baskets and chimeneas on site
  • Three amenities blocks with well-kept toilets and hot showers
If your holiday checklist includes gorgeous Cornish sea views, quick access to golden beaches and so much to do for mini campers that you can fine the kids if anyone dares utter the phrase ‘I’m bored’, seasidey Chy Carne Holiday Park should tick all boxes for your break. This is a relaxed, spacious and spankingly clean site with a strong family focus, dog-friendly and close to acclaimed beaches like Kennack Sands (10 minutes' walk) as well as many of the main attractions and towns of Cornwall. Helston, Falmouth and St Austell are all within easy reach, and spectacular Kynance Cove is five minutes' drive away. The kids can go 'Aaaarrr' and clamber around the play pirate ship, get competitive at the outdoor games or kick a ball around the grassy open space, while the bigger folk can sit back and prepare the barbecue, have a campfire on one of the Chy Carne chimeneas or fire baskets, or sit back with a snack or drink from the licensed shop (opening times and stock limited out of season). There’s a pizza takeaway on site too (open during the May half term and school summer holidays only, until 9pm), so you can polish off a pepperoni if you don't feel like cooking. The first-class facilities here have plenty of hot showers (extra charge applies), toilets, washbasins and washing-up sinks (four, to be exact) so queues are unlikely even in peak season. The main amenity block is open at all times, with two more opening up to cope with extra demand in high season (May half term and school summer holidays). There’s a launderette on site too with two commercial washing machines and two driers. Chy Carne welcomes well-behaved pets.

What customers say

This well-kept campsite boasts stunning sea views and is a short walk to the beach. Visitors rave about the friendly staff & clean, well-equipped facilities. While some pitches were sloped, the overall experience is highly positive for a peaceful, family-friendly holiday. Shower charges & Wi-Fi are minor points.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Pizza shop onsite, nice toilets and showers

Disliked Slopey pitches (it is on the description but we couldn’t even it out with our ramps for the van so worth noting).
Quite expensive to say there’s not a lot near by, spent a lot on food, showers, electricity and laundry as it all adds up having to pay.
Noisy at night too even after the 10pm cut off.

Visiting Cornwall is no Benidorm very much the opposite. It really depends on what you want to do if you want beaches then this is the place there is much to do but it depends on what you want to do.

At Chycarne we have a number of different camping areas to suit all needs Over 50% of all the available pitches are on level ground and the remaining are on a gentle slope.
Now this generally is not an issue for most but we are always happy to offer assistance to help level any unit with exception to tents which is an impossible task at the best.

Now its common knowledge that costs have increased to business and continue to rise
Electricity has seen a huge increase and this would also apply to the laundry but these are optional.
The small charge for showers is reflected in our tariff. Showers are not free here nor are they free at home. There are a lot of costs that have to be met just to have a shower equally we are required to clean the waste water that as been used before it can be discharged safely and this is super expensive. unfortunately Chycarne does not benefit from a mains sewer

Unfortunately there are times when despite all your rules they some how do not always apply to certain individuals They are your noisy brigade. Wardens will always ask any noisy persons to consider other guests and wardens will always do there best but I am afraid this situation is NOT unique to us, it happens just about every where and every campsite to best of my knowledge

Sorry to hear that you spent to much on food but that really is out of our control

Wish you well

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Great location, with some spectacular sea views. Clean and tidy.

Disliked Very little monitoring of poor behaviour. Children screaming and running around the park, till 11pm. Other campers partying and arguing till 3am.

Chycarne holiday park is a small independent family campsite located within anarea of outstanding natural beauty overlooking Kennack sands

Of course children screaming late on in to the night is not acceptable and the on site wardens will deal with this excessive noise after 10pm and have intervened on a few occasions throughout this summer but unfortunately this is the way during the school summer holidays but never at any other times throughout the year as for other campers partying late on in to the night and maybe having a dispute know our wardens once again will intervene but will not get involved with any domestic disputes as this can often see unfortunately the wardens becoming the focus of the individuals attention but they will monitor the situation.
We have had no such reports, however of any partying till 3am as this would have been dealt with much earlier but if visitors choose to site outside their tent /camper/caravan then they are fully entitled to do so providing they respect other campers and keep the noise to a minimum. However do be assured that wardens are on site and do monitor up to a point until the campsite becomes quiet at such point they will retire. There is always an emergency number that can be called to report any anti social behaviour and noise and wardens will respond as quickly as possible. But please do accept we can only do so much and can never completely prevent sudden outbursts of noise at any time
but we are delighted other than this you enjoyed your stay with us

Chycarne

With regards to children screaming and running around until 11pm All excessive noise after 10pm will be dealt with by our wardens

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Very dated / old toilet block, but clean.

Disliked The pitches are very small, we had trouble erecting our tent, our poles kept hitting the camper vans next to us. We were completely surrounded by camper vans on all sides of our pitch. The site was extremely noisy till around 11pm most nights by older children in the park shouting and screaming. The park is open 24 hrs a day. It was stated in the information that the site was patrolled by wardens? never saw one.
We will never camp / holiday on this site again and will not recommend to friends.

We must confess we are at a complete loss at your comments
and your rating

Chycarne is a well maintain clean tidy site that is both family friendly and dog friendly

At Chycarne we have many camping areas situated throughout the park All pitches at Chycarne are a minimum of 10 x 8 metres, However we always happy to change your pitch subject to availability.

Chycarne is a campsite and we have many visitors, some in camper vans some in touring caravans and others in tents I guess that's the way it is in all campsites unless I am mistaken and we are no different

Noise can be an issue especially at night and despite your claim wardens are and do respond to excessive noise after 10pm Wardens have intervene on a few occasions with screaming kids in the play areas. All child's play areas are closed at 10pm

If of course you were unhappy with your pitch and the children playing then its much easier for us to deal with whilst you were on site and if you had reported it to reception then these issues could have been dealt with but we are not aware of any issues only in this review

We hope to see you again soon

At Chycarne we have three toilet and shower blocks Not sure they are dated or even that old but that's your opinion but they are clean, safe and functional and well maintain. They are simple but We are not looking to win any awards for our shower blocks

Local attractions

The clean, safe and award-winning Kennack Sands (with lifeguards on duty during the summer months) is a 10-minute walk from Chy Carne, and has shops and cafés as well as a dog-friendly stretch on one side: hum the theme from Jaws as you spot a basking shark, or clamber up the coastal path for scenic walks in both directions. A short drive away is Kynance Cove, which is one of the most photographed spots in Cornwall: fool folk that you’re in the Med by snapping a pic here or at postcard-perfect Mullion Cove on a sunny day. The Site of Special Scientific Interest Goonhilly Downs is on the doorstep, best known for its Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station, once the biggest in the world and still with satellite dishes that can be seen for miles: the building of a new space science centre on the site was announced in 2011. Let the kids loose too at the Lizard Point Lighthouse, the last manned lighthouse before automation and now with a heritage centre with exhibits, displays and some of the original engines, or take them to drool over the dromedaries at Cornish Camels. As it’s Cornwall, holidaymakers of an amphibious disposition will be in heaven with top sailing, surfing, scuba diving and other watersports along this stretch of Cornish coast, and several surf and scuba schools in the area for both newbies and water experts. Landlubbers will find plenty to do too: horse riding, bird (and shark) spotting, golf, fishing, clay pigeon shooting and more are all within reach. Day trips include squawking at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, flying at the thrill rides of The Flambards Experience and Crealy Great Adventure Park, or browsing around the towns of Falmouth, St Ives, Penzance and Truro for seafood, shopping, more beautiful beaches and a boat ride to the ancient harbour at Marizion’s St Michael’s Mount. Finally, round off your trip with an afternoon or evening at Penzance’s clifftop open-air Minack Theatre – squint a little bit at the amphitheatre and you could almost imagine you’re in Roman Britain…
