  • Luxury glamping pods just outside St Keverne, on the Lizard Peninsula
  • Coverack Beach five minutes’ drive; Trebah Garden 35 minutes
  • Kitchenette and ensuite shower room; Astronomy Package (Sep–Mar)
Fancy glamping on the Lizard Peninsula, a five-minute drive from the Cornish coast and a 15-minute walk from a traditional pub? If the answer is an enthusiastic ‘Yes, please’, then run – or better yet, drive – to Cedarwood Holidays, a peaceful site on the outskirts of the village of St Keverne (five minutes’ drive). Three self-catering luxury pods occupy a one-acre meadow surrounded by trees, wildflowers and birdsong. Your accommodation comes with an ensuite shower room, central heating (which makes Cedarwood an excellent year-round option) and a kitchenette with kettle, toaster and fridge, plus a microwave. With those tools, you should be able to make a pretty decent range of meals during your time here. Each pod also has its own barbecue area (with a picnic table so you can savour your chargrilled recipes alfresco). Need a break from kitchen duties? That pub mentioned earlier, in St Keverne, also serves food, and there are another couple of dining options in the village, not to mention the organic ice-cream farm just five minutes’ walk up the road. When you come home from the pub, after dark, your eyes might be drawn to the big, dark, starry skies above you. If the sight of the constellations makes you wish you knew more about astronomy, you’re in luck: from September to March, the site runs an Astronomy Package. Owner Joe (who runs the place with Kirstie) is a long-time amateur astronomer, and he will be happy to answer any questions you might have as you look through a powerful telescope.

Firecrest camping pod

Liked: Everything! The pod was so cosy. Hosts had thought of everything that you would need for the stay. Felt exclusive with there being only 3 pods on site. Hosts fantastic, great communication pre-arrival and whilst on site. Location is fab, used as a base to visit surrounding areas .10 mins walk into the square. The Three Tunnes pub is well worth a visit. Loved our stay

Disliked: Nothing

Local attractions

The sheltered beach in the fishing village of Coverack (five minutes’ drive) is a popular spot for watersports, with shops renting out kayaks and paddleboards. The gentle waves are great for those just starting out on their surfboards, and the kids can also look for wee beasties and seashells in the rockpools. Thanks to Cornwall’s microclimate, Trebah Garden (35 minutes) is a riot of colourful plants regardless of the season – from magnolias and camellias in spring, to hydrangeas in the autumn. Children in particular might enjoy exploring the Bamboozle (a bamboo grove with close to 50 species) and the giant leaves in the Gunnera Passage. St Ives (50 minutes) is equally known for its sandy beaches as for its modern art scene. Tate St Ives runs temporary exhibitions in a splendid and airy seaside building, while the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, where the artist lived and worked for many years, displays her works in leafy surrounds.
