  • Relaxed farm site half a mile from the South West Coast Path
  • A 10-minute drive from Boscastle and 20 minutes from Tintagel Castle
  • Stunning views and a two-acre dog walk on site
If you're striding out on the South West Coast Path (and if you're staying in Cornwall or Devon you absolutely must), you might like to try an especially handsome section to tackle, the four-mile hike from Boscastle to kingly Arthur's old castle of Tintagel: it's utterly majestic. How timely, then, that the path and the route to Boscastle is a mere half-mile from Lower Pennycrocker Farm, in a coastal location most convenient for this traipse and other top-notch Cornwall attractions. (For example, it's a few minutes' drive from cracking surf at Crackington Haven and seven miles from much more of the foamy same at Bude.) The views in this part of the world – from both the site and the cliffs on its doorstep – are fit for a king, which is probably why the vicinity's been crowned as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty… Bodmin Moor is about seven miles away and if it's urbanity you're after, Boscastle is two and a half miles away and Wadebridge and Port Isaac within 30 to 40 minutes' drive respectively. All is royally relaxed on this laidback farm, with hot showers and spankingly clean amenities all round. A farm shop is about five minutes away by car… or you could wander down to it via the coastal path. Dogs are allowed at Lower Pennycrocker, but please keep them on leads and exercise them away from the farm. Handily, there is also a two-acre dog walk on site.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Site was very well maintained, clean and peaceful. Toilets and showers were clean with plenty of hot water. Owner greeted us, showed us to our pitch and visited a couple of times for a chat and to check we were enjoying our time on the site. Easy access to the Southwest coastal path - although a challenge once on it. Pretty easy bus service on the nearby main road.

Disliked: Nothing - all good.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: From Start to finish it was a 10/10. The pitches are incredibly competitively priced to ones in the area. We were met by Colin when we arrived who was friendly and prompt to get up to us. The views are incredible, you look out over the sea and Tintagel castle. The site is peaceful, there is no road noise just the sound of nature and the occasional sheep. All the facilities were cleaned regularly and were well kept. The showers were warm and the pressure was very good. Pitches were all flat and the grass was cut short. Our dogs enjoyed the special dog area which was a nice additional touch. Then we went to set off our van decided not to start…Colin the hero came to the rescue. He clearly goes above and beyond for the people that book his site. I would recommend this site to anyone!!!

Disliked: The only thing if we were being especially picky is that the toilets could do with hooks on the doors for coats. But this did not detract from the overall experience!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The location was great with excellent views and easy access to the SW Coast Path. Colin and Karyn (who run the place) where very helpful and give us guidance on the best route to the SW Path and what to look out for. 20 minutes by foot from the site and we where watching seals in the sea and on the beach.

Disliked: The steep walk from the waterfall to the Boscaste Farm shop but it was worth it for the coffee and cake.

Liked: Everything!
Lovely site with clean, well kept facilities and spacious, well maintained pitches. Weather wasn’t great but we loved it all the same. Views are amazing and Colin, the owner, was super helpful and friendly.
All in all, one of our favourite sites!

Disliked: Nothing! Well - the weather, but there’s nothing you can do about that!

Local attractions

Start off on that South West Coast Path near Lower Pennycrocker Farm: you'll be on the path within half a mile of base and the Boscastle to Tintagel Castle leg starts two and a half miles from there, passing splendidly named landmarks like Firebeacon Hill, Rocky Valley and Barras Nose. The nearest beach to the farm is Crackington Haven, less than three miles away, around a coastal village with a shop, two small cafés and a pub. The beach is lifeguarded in summer, as are the ones at Bude, a 20-minute drive away; both are sublimely good surfing spots and popular with families. Never tried it? Enrol in a surf school at Bude or several other beach locations within a short drive to find out more. If you're wandering just to Boscastle or stopping off there on the way to Arthurland, make time for a captivating afternoon in the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic, apparently 'held in high esteem by the British occult community' (hurrah). A visit to the pottery shop and a picnic overlooking Boscastle's harbour should very much be on the cards too. Other options in the area include tackling the golf course at nearby Camelford (other decent courses are at Bude and Launceston), or a meander around Bodmin Moor: see if you can spy the famous beast.
