  • Eco-friendly glamping on a 15-acre farm in the Surrey Hills
  • Box Hill 10 minutes' drive; 20 minutes to Polesden Lacey
  • Easy escape from London; access to pub walks and trail to Dorking
The Surrey Hills National Landscape is a gorgeous part of the world to explore – and a particularly fine pick if you’re a Londoner looking for an easy rural escape. Bag yourselves a glamping break at Surrey Hills Yurts and you’ll be in pole position to get out and about for a good fix of fresh air, country walks and green, green scenery. The eco-friendly accommodation here is part of a 15-acre working farm that’s a couple of miles from Dorking and around an hour’s drive from London. You’ll share the property with Gloucester Old Spot pigs, Sussex cows and chickens, and you can arrange traditional outdoor activity sessions like archery, willow weaving and horse carriage driving with a bit of prior notice. Rural but not too far out of town, this is an excellent spot for a bike ride or a walk – a bike trail and footpath run through to Dorking, and there are also paths running to Leith Hill or the village of Westcott. The owners can also recommend some great pub walks and routes that take you to one of the nearby vineyards, or organise guided walks with a qualified ecologist for insights into the local landscape and wildlife. Much of what you’ll need for a comfy stay is provided in the well-equipped accommodation – bed linen is included, and the communal kitchen is stacked with pans, crockery and utensils for cooking on the hob or on a campfire. You’ll also have access to a luxurious hot shower and chemical-free toilets. As this is an off-grid site there’s no electricity, so don’t forget your torch. You’ll also need to bring your own towels.
