  • Dog-friendly pop-up glampsite 15 minutes’ drive from Winchester
  • South Downs National Park five minutes’ drive; Marwell Zoo 30 minutes
  • Off-grid shepherd’s hut in a wildlife haven with stunning valley views
Can’t bear to be parted from your dogs? Take them with you to Kestrel Valley View, a nattily kitted out shepherd’s hut 15 minutes’ drive from Winchester, where humans are only accepted if they promise to behave well. Set on private, secluded and secure Hampshire land with spectacular valley views, this cute and self-contained cabin is cleverly laid out with all your basics (kettle, stove, coffee) and cold running water in the camping kitchen, a double bed with a memory-foam mattress and a compact dining area. Just outside, its mini-me counterpart (once a birding hut) contains the camping loo. The site has its own firepit, outdoor seating and a Victorian tin bath (complete with privacy screens) for a refreshing cold-water experience. Everything is off grid for that ‘back to nature’ vibe, and the place is something of a wildlife haven too, with kestrels, sparrow hawks, red kites and buzzards often seen whirling in the thermals. When it comes to exercising with your four-legged friends, there’s direct access to local bridleways and footpaths leading into the South Downs National Park, with a couple of dog-friendly pubs within walking distance too.
