  • Family site behind a 17th-century pub in the South Downs National Park
  • Jane Austen’s House 10 minutes’ drive; The Watercress Line 20 minutes
  • Spacious, dog-friendly grass pitches; meals and takeaways available
Staying in the South Downs National Park is an attractive prospect as it is. However, with a characterful 17th-century inn to its name, Camp Whichway @ The Pub With No Name gives you much more to look forward to: top-notch food, fine ales and a warm welcome with a sea of friendly faces. Tucked behind a popular and storied pub, the pop-up site sits on a plateau about 800ft above sea level and at the meeting point of three parishes steeped in history. You can get your feet under the table in the bar every night, freeing up plenty of time for you, the kids and any dogs to explore the fertile farmland and undulating chalk downlands of the national park by day. The level site has generous grassy pitches in a flower-filled meadow that’s a staggering distance from the pub. There are flushing loos and hot showers in the timber-clad facilities block, plus refuse disposal and a washing-up area close by. Guests have easy access to ambles – straight from canvas to countryside if you like – under mature trees, as well as stunning sunsets and star-filled skies on clear nights.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked Old school pitch up and stay camping. We enjoyed ourselves.

Disliked The grass in the middle could do with being maintained.
Also staffies should be allowed on this site, education is needed!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Views, wild birds of prey, proximity to pub, firewood available, friendly host.

Disliked Toilet doors broken, shallow pitches for larger (6man) tents, so you need to set up chairs to the side of the pitch, or we should have slanted/angled our tent in hindsight.

Could do with a sign at entrance as I went to the pub by mistake initally.

Would definitely stay again with my children and dog as we loved it.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked Peaceful
Good pub with good food and character
Network of small lanes and paths nearby for walking

Disliked Very limited, and sometimes no, water in the sinks and toilets which meant the toilet cisterns didn't fill and couldn't be flushed ... with resulting toilet blockages.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely setting in a beautiful part of the country. The camp site was full on the weekend that we stayed but there was still plenty of room in the middle of the field and it didn't seem busy or crowded.

Disliked Nothing really - the water pressure was a little variable in the showers and basins at times. The loos are unisex so be prepared!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked A lovely campsite In a beautiful old pubs field. Got a great spot and really enjoyed our stay. The views are beautiful.
The pub food was alright but a bit on the expensive side with a limited choice. This site allows fogs and was very dog friendly. It gets busy at the weekend so I'd advise to go on a Thursday to get the best spot. Overall a very nice site.

Disliked Only thing that disappointed me was the shower pressure. Very difficult to wash long hair.
Also I'd advise them to get a skip bin as by 1100 on the Sunday the bin was overflowing
Note there is no shop within walking distance
