Camper at hollands wood

  • Friendly New Forest campsite with simple facilities provided
  • Five minutes' drive from Lyndhurst; 15 minutes from Lymington
  • Access to woodland walking trails; half hour's walk to Brockenhurst
It can be tricky to escape the trappings of modern life these days… but Hollands Wood Caravan and Campsite is a place that allows guests to do just that. With 22 hectares of gorgeous oak woodland as a backdrop, this campsite in the New Forest National Park is a fabulous spot for stepping back and taking some deep breaths of fresh air. Stays here are on simple pitches woven through the treelines, among the ferns or out in slightly more open spots – take your pick depending on which one catches your eye. Whichever you pick, you should be treated to soothing views of green space, sounds of woodland and the chance to spot the New Forest’s famed wild ponies wandering freely. (Please note the natural terrain means that rock pegs are a good idea for successful tent pitching.) The friendly atmosphere at Hollands Wood lends itself well to many hours of chilling out in the woods – but the location’s also an excellent one for those who’d like to take off and explore more widely. From here you’ll have access to 143 miles of waymarked trails for walks or bike rides through the surrounding woodlands, or you could walk to Brockenhurst (home of several lovely places to eat and drink) in about half an hour. This is a place where guests are encouraged to embrace the natural setting in all its glory, but there are a few facilities provided to make life a little more comfortable – these include toilets, showers, a washing-up area and a launderette. You’ll also be asked to follow the New Forest Code to help maintain this glorious environment, and use organic toilet fluid where possible in chemical loos.

What customers say

Woodland setting with space, choose your own spot. Clean facilities, helpful staff, and free-roaming ponies! Great for walks, cycling, and Brockenhurst access. Minor notes: road noise, peak crowds, dated showers. Highly recommended, guests plan to return.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely site, I liked the space and tranquility of the site. It’s very large and even with the large amount of campers there was plenty of space. Everyone was friendly and the staff were very helpful and cheerful. Lovely walk in to the village with lots of pubs.

Disliked The only downside was the noise from the road. It seemed to be busy the whole time day and night. Having said that if we visited again we would position ourselves furthest away from the road.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked The site is so natural, no uniformity of pitches so free to choose. Have option for early/late checkin/out for £5. New little shop with benches. Love freedom of horses and cows and this time we saw squirrels are back and even saw the bats....

Disliked Toilets were cleaned but due to water pressure, difficult to flush so you can imagine some visits were not that nice..no fault of users. Reported to staff. Facilities need updating, we've been visiting for many years and they have not been improved.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Campsite itself was great, both areas in the open or under trees so a nice variety. Toilet blocks were great. Staff were lovely and so helpful!

Disliked The gate shuts at 10pm. Makes it hard to head out in the evening and come back.

Local attractions

Nearby Brockenhurst (half an hour’s walk/five minutes’ drive) is a good place to stroll to – the village has some lovely pubs, a bike hire facility for woodland cycle trails and the perennially popular Balmerlawn picnic spot for a riverside snack. Lyndhurst (five minutes’ drive) is another nice village to visit, with the New Forest Heritage Centre and bike tours available. Spotting animals is surely part of any New Forest break, and that’s guaranteed with trips to places like the New Forest Reptile Centre (10 minutes), Longdown Activity Farm (15 minutes) and New Forest Wildlife Park (15 minutes). The natural world is a huge draw around here – but so are the shiny cars of the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu (15 minutes). Once you’ve finished there, head back to the site via Lymington (15 minutes), which has boat trips, boat hire and the chance to cool off in a seawater swimming pool.
