  • Peaceful and secure gated touring park in Bradfield village, Essex
  • Colchester Castle 25 minutes’ drive; Wrabness Foreshore 10 minutes
  • Dog-friendly pitches with electric hook-ups, showers and beer garden
Whether you are arriving in the UK from Hook-of-Holland, or setting off on your European adventure from the ferry ports at Harwich (20 minutes’ drive), you won’t find a handier place to stop over than Strangers Holiday Park. With pretty views over the Stour Estuary, this gated holiday park has grass and gravel touring pitches in the village of Bradfield, Essex. Sheltered by mature trees, the site has all the facilities you need for comfy layovers – electric hook-ups to all the pitches, a shower block and shared barbecue areas. Dogs are more than welcome too, but please keep them on a lead around the park and clear up after them. Stay just one night if you’re heading deeper into the UK, or linger longer and acquaint yourselves with the all-round loveliness of Essex countryside, towns and villages. And if you like the sound of escaping the big smoke for the weekend, Strangers Holiday Park is roughly two hours’ drive from central London.

Liked: It is a beautiful quiet site, with plenty of space per pitch. I convenient field, woodland and pond next to the site for sog walking, exploring and enjoying the sunset over the estuary.
5 mins from Wrabness Nature Reserve and 10 mins from Harwich. Will definitely return. Facilities were clean with warm water and plenty of hand wash soap.

Local attractions

Here for a longer stay? Pull on the hiking boots to ramble the heathland in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (half an hour’s drive), or walk along the River Stour to the famous riverside cottage featured in Constable’s ‘The Hay Wain’ in Flatford and Constable Country (20 minutes). Raise your activity levels by challenging each other to kayak races at Alton Water Sports Centre (25 minutes). Turn your attention to the coastline and stroll the sandy expanse at Wrabness Foreshore (10 minutes) to the green-tiled House for Essex, a beachside folly designed by Grayson Perry. Play the amusement arcades on the Victorian pier at Clacton-on-Sea (25 minutes), and if the weather’s showing promise, have a laze on the sand at Walton-on-the-Naze (20 minutes). And you’ve got many options for rainy days too. Get under cover to see railway memorabilia in the former Victorian station at the East Anglian Railway Museum (half an hour), or tour the interactive history exhibits at Colchester Castle (25 minutes).
