  • Dog-friendly wild campsite with free entry to a family farm attraction
  • A 15-minute drive from Eastbourne; half an hour from Battle
  • The site has a shop, café, themed play areas and fishing lakes
Enter the wild side… with free entry to an on-site family farm attraction, the wild camping site at Sharnfold Farm will swiftly get you back to basics. In other words, you might be barbecuing up some fresh goodies purchased locally or cradling a morning brew collected from their coffee shop. After that, make your descent into the surrounding 1066 country. The Eastbourne seafront is 15 minutes’ drive away, with its classic Victorian hotels and 19th-century pier. Battle is half an hour’s drive away and Hastings is 40 minutes away too. As well as the shop and coffee shop, the Sharnfold Farm site has toilets and fresh water. There are fishing lakes for those who’d like a session by the water. Kids under 10 might want to take their playtime to the farm trail, where they can visit the animals and get stuck into adventures on the trail like playhouses and musical instructions. Unless you’ve already set your sights somewhere on the Eastbourne seafront for dins, there’s also a pub next door for your evening meals.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Amazing place for kids, plenty to do, handy shop/Cafe, kids loved the animals and corn maze especially. Pub two mins away if you don’t feel like cooking. Fresh drinking water tap. Peaceful at night.

Disliked No showers or washing up area for campers. Toilets next to main gate hot water only in one.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We recently stayed at Sharnfold Farm Campsite and had a really enjoyable time overall. The site itself is fairly basic but very well kept, with a nice atmosphere in the camping field. Despite being mostly families with children, everyone was considerate and fairly quiet, which made for a relaxed stay.

We knew in advance that there wouldn’t be showers, but having even a very simple outdoor one would have made a huge difference to our experience. Similarly, washing-up facilities and the option to rent a campfire would be great additions in the future.

What really stood out, though, was the farm itself. There is so much for children to do and explore – it’s clear a lot of thought has gone into making it more than just a farm with a playground. There are lots of magical little areas for kids to discover, which really made up for the more basic camping facilities.

A couple of small negatives: we pitched our tent nearer the road, which we didn’t think much of at the time, but it turned out to be quite noisy overnight. I’d recommend bringing earplugs or choosing a pitch closer to the farm entrance instead. Also, we had hoped to walk over to the pub next door, but the roadside felt unsafe – cars drive fast, and the grass verge was full of nettles and brambles. We ended up driving instead, even though it was only a very short distance. If the greenery could be cut back, it would make walking much safer for families with children and dogs.

Overall, a lovely stay at a charming little campsite. With a few added facilities, it could be even better – but the atmosphere and the farm experience made it a memorable trip for us.

Disliked Not having a shower or washing up facilities

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Friendly staff, nice to have the option of going round the farm so great with kids, and also other families camping so children had fun. Also felt very safe. It's convenient for Airbourne which is why we stayed. Grass is also not too long, not patchy, and field is reasonably level with mature trees surrounding it and blackberry bushes which the children enjoyed. It's also very nice to have a relatively late check out time of 11am.

Disliked It desperately needs a shower block and a washing up station. At the moment the pricing is really not up to standard - it cost us £60 per night with no electric or basic facilities, which is more than double what you'd expect. The toilets are also not brilliant - there are only two, and the toilet roll dispensers and hot water taps were faulty. There is one outdoor cold water tap which doesn't have any indication of whether it's drinking water. Right now the benefit of the farm is the only thing really going for it, but I don't think we'll stay again if we're more organised and find somewhere cheaper with better facilities.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The farm was included in price.

5 min from bust stop into Eastbourne, however the walk is along a busy road, journey is about 40 minutes and costs £3 per adult, 50p for a child each way.

Disliked *£30 a night to park in a field was over priced, sadly we had to come to the area so had no choice but to book this site last minute as every where was fully booked, however it does include entry into farm, maybe an option should be available if you don’t want entry and maybe you could receive a discount.
**Road noise was awful, especially on a Saturday night! Lots of cars and motorbikes racing up and down the road.
***Toilets were not very clean, not sure if it was mud or facaes on the walls, the pipes had not been wiped in a long while, build up of dirt and dust.
****The lock on the gate which is locked at 7pm every night was not easy to unlock.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked It was peaceful, well kept and clean.
The owner is a lovely guy who came to check that all was well.
A nice farm and lake but areas restricted to dogs which is understandable although I would have fished the lake if my dog was allowed with me on a lead.
Staff were friendly and helpful.

Disliked Lack of shower facilities really let's it down and the amount of spiders in the toilets would scare off a lot of people.
