  • Peaceful off-grid site on a smallholding in Cumbria
  • A 10-minute drive from the coast; 25 minutes from Windermere
  • Local produce for sale and firepits provided; pub 10 minutes’ walk
If you’ve been feeling like going off-grid for a while, Holme Meadow Camping is a great place to do it. This peaceful family-run site is on a smallholding in Cumbria with sheep, geese and chickens – and the location is a fabulous one for days of outdoor adventuring too, with two national parks and a national landscape within easy reach. For hikes and watersports, drive 25 minutes north to Windermere in the Lake District National Park. The site is a 20-minute drive to Kirkby Lonsdale on the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and a 10 to 15-minute drive to the scenic coastline of the Arnside & Silverdale National Landscape. If you’d like to eat out, head to the pub 10 minutes’ walk away in Holme which serves tasty food; handily, there are lots of splendid walks around the village to help you work up an appetite or let your lunch go down. Milnthorpe, five minutes' drive away, has shops, cafés and pubs. There’s also a local shop and garage a mile away for light refreshments. Keen birdwatcher? Simply take a stroll to the local canal or mill pond. Back at base, there are splendid wildflower areas and over 45 different species of birds to spot. Firepits are provided and logs are sold on site. There is also produce for sale, so you should be all set to cook over the fire.

Bell tent

Liked: Steve was so friendly, and chatty nothing was too much trouble. The site is beautifully located, no frills but what you need for a peaceful getaway.
Lovely to be ‘off grid ‘. Great to have a beautifully clean, spacious tent, fire pit and picnic table. Would love to return.

Bell tent

Liked: Really lovely small campsite, we opted for the bell tent as we were only staying for one night. It was perfect as the tent is ready once we arrived. The host was so helpful in providing a campfire, logs and a lighter. Really helpful host who helped out a young group of lads who were staying and had forgotten their tent! Lent them equipment and helped them build a makeshift shelter for the night. The campsite was calm and peaceful and had all facilities needed.
