Camping at hayfield

  • Pop-up site at a friendly family farm five minutes from Ulverston
  • A five-minute drive to beach or safari zoo; 20 minutes to Windermere
  • Local pub and ice cream parlour within walking distance
If a spot just a few minutes away from both Ulverston and the Cumbria coast sounds like a good place to be (and it surely should…) then you’ll likely be most pleased with the setup at Camping at Hayfield. This pop-up site is part of a family farm, and it’s run by people who are keen on travelling and exploring who know a thing or two about what makes for a fab place to stay. It’s all about splendid simplicity here: facilities are limited to just portable toilets, so you can focus on the key elements of a peaceful stay (namely meeting the farm animals, checking out the gorgeous Lake District views and bonding over an evening by the barbecue or campfire…) Look out from the pitches and you’ll see rural views all around, with footpaths easily accessible for when you fancy getting out to see a bit more. Handily it’s about a 20-minute stroll to the local pub, and an even shorter one to an ice cream parlour. For more foodie options (including pubs, takeaways and supermarkets), it’s a five-minute drive up to Ulverston. A countryside site this may be, but as it’s not far from the A590 it’s also one that’s well placed for getting out and about. Some of the biggest sights in the Lake District National Park (including Windermere and Coniston Water) are about 20 minutes away by car, or you can get to Bardsea Beach or South Lakes Safari Zoo in about five minutes.

Spacious, well-kept site with great country views. Owners are super friendly & helpful. Clean facilities, warm showers. Kids love the farm animals. Good base for local spots. Minor gripes: no mirrors in showers, basic portable toilets.

Liked Absolutely everything. From the lovely wide open space, the clean facilities, the approximity to local shops petrol etc to the tea and coffee shack but mostly the outstanding loveliness of the lady who runs the site. So helpful and welcoming. I will definitely stay here again! Plus I've never seen stars like it on a clear night , amazing.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Location is ideal, owners are lovely and accommodating, little tuck shop and option to rent a firepit/buy wood. Facilities are brilliant.

Disliked Only thing to improve on would be more showers/toilets as queues form due to amount of people camping as opposed to the amount of toilets/showers

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great space no limit on the size of tent

Disliked The only thing I can find is the toilets could do with a few more in both fields was busy and had to wait awhile but that’s it

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your great review Gordon, your comments regarding toilets have been noted for the next bank holiday, the good weather brought more visitors than usual and at times the 5 toilets were busy, sorry🏕️

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We had a really nice couple of nights away at Hayfield, the atmosphere was laid back and relaxing. Bev was very welcoming from the moment we arrived. Our children loved the animals that they were allowed to feed. We were a group of 2 families and have said we would love to return next summer.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great campsite, peaceful location and large field with views and level pitches and the cut grass was a treat as was the perfectly functional loos and hot showers. We appreciated the thoughtful extras: washing up sink and even soap. The very reasonable rent of fire pits and firewood to purchase meant we had everything we needed. Thank you!

Disliked Nothing - all was great
