  • Peaceful Lake District farm site 10 minutes’ drive from Ulverston
  • Aquarium of the Lakes five minutes’ drive; 20 minutes to Go Ape course
  • Dog-friendly glamping units 10 minutes’ walk from a real-ale pub
When you’re staying in the Lake District National Park, the stunning scenery is surely all you need… although it helps if you have a good pub within easy walking distance. That’s the case at Black Beck Farm, a traditional family-run farm in the lovely Cumbria village of Bouth – it’s surrounded by those fabulous rural views that draw people to this area, and it’s also a handy 10-minute walk from the village pub (the centre of village life, serving up bar and restaurant meals alongside local ales). Accommodation here is in a collection of dog-friendly glamping units in a peaceful setting with access to a cluster of shared facilities including bathrooms with toilets, hot showers and handy electric points for things like hairdryers and razors. This being the Lake District, there are plenty of options nearby for walking, cycling, watersports, birdwatching and other outdoorsy activities – the southern tip of both Windermere and Coniston Water are both about 10 minutes’ drive away and there are several fells nearby to clamber up. Heading south, it’s also about a 10-minute drive to Ulverston, a market town that’s a handy source of food and other supplies. With lovely green views all around, you may well feel like you’re right out in the middle of nowhere. Access is surprisingly easy, though – the farm is about a mile and a half from the A590 and a half-hour drive from Junction 36 of the M6.

1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: I liked Everything! It was so peaceful and relaxing. The views are spectacular and we stayed in Roe Deer Lodge. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever stayed in apart from my own. I will definitely go again but camping next time.

Disliked: This is my own fault because I didn't read site rules properly but you can only have a fire inside, which of course is awesome but as a predominantly camping couple, we love to chat around a fire pit.

1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: The firepit is the stand out feature and made the pod cosy and was a lot of fun to cook on and toast marshmallows. We also appreciated the wall to wall bed which was great for two adults and a young child. Very comfortable.

Disliked: A small issue but we did struggle to find the site. Entrance signage could be a little clearer, especially as there is large caravan park with a similar name about 2 minutes down the hill.

Bow Top gypsy wagon

Liked: What a fabulous find. I usually camp in a tent but weather looked awful, so this was a wonderful compromise. The Bow Top caravan has stunning views. It is cosy and well equipped for storage and lighting. Neil popped by each day to make sure everything was ok. The bed was super comfortable. Lots of walks very close and a good guide is in the caravan .Toilets and showers were clean and close by. Loved it and will be back soon.

Disliked: This is not really a dislike, but I wasn't aware this is also a camp site. There were a few families around. All play nicely and no excessive noise. But had I known Iay have gone out of school holidays.

1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: Lovely peaceful campsite with clean facilities. We stayed in one of the glamping pods which was very cosy in the stormy weather. Owners very thoughtfully left us some marshmallows for the bbq firepit which went down very well with our kids. A lovely place in a great location. Would definitely come back (we are looking at buying a tent!)

Disliked: No WiFi ,bonus for us but our older child thought her right hand had been cut off
