Campervan pitches

  • Campervan pitches in a meadow with fell views near Penrith in Cumbria
  • A 15-minute drive from Ullswater and Keswick; overlooks Blencathra
  • Dog-friendly; laundry and washroom; direct access to walks and cycling
Washroom & laundry, dog friendly, walking and cycling direct from site One for those of you who prefer to be (almost) alone among majestic landscapes of fells and hillsides, Near Howe’s small number of well-maintained grass campervan pitches are on a wild meadow with a backdrop of glorious Cumbrian countryside near Penrith. The site is within the Lake District National Park, and walkers and bikers will be pleased to hear that a number of footpaths and cycling routes can be accessed directly from the camping field. The owners have secure bicycle storage – cyclists just need to ask for the key. Should you be on holiday with your canine chums, there is a dedicated dog-wash area so you can rinse off the mud after soggy walkies. To ensure the safety of your fellow guests and local wildlife, please keep an eye on your dogs at all times and always pick up after them. So that’s the dogs all clean. Keep yourselves neat and tidy in the modern amenities block with a hot shower, toilet and wash basin shared across the pitches, and keep everything else looking spick and span thanks to the washing-up sink, washing machine and tumble dryer (there’s an additional charge for the last two). If you need rainy-day distractions, there are books and games to borrow in the laundry room too. Please note: due to Near Howe’s pitches being in a hilly rural location at the top of a gravel track and with a narrow gateway to negotiate, only campervans up to six metres in length can be accommodated.

What customers say

This small, quiet site offers stunning, uninterrupted mountain views and a sense of seclusion. Spacious, level pitches & modern, clean facilities. Limited to 5 campervan spots. A single shower/toilet may mean wait times during peak periods. The access road is steep, but most guests agree the views & peaceful vibe are worth it.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked Lovely site, clean and well catered for, toilet, shower and washing facilities clean and modern. The camp ground was nice and flat. The views are spectacular, just breathtaking. Be prepared the site is on the top of a hill so can get very windy, you are open to the elements. But the views make up for that. I visited solo with my 2 dogs. Owners were very helpful and friendly.lovely quiet and peaceful camp.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked View. Peace. Alpacas. Facilities

Disliked Didn't meet owners.
Camping field was used as dog walk by people staying in holiday cottages and they would walk and stop and chat and allow their dogs to do their " business" right Infront of our campervan.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked Everything. After a road trip to Edinburgh we found this place on line on our way back down south and it was perfect. Had so many amazing facilities such as warm shower, toilet, washing machine, sink, plus games, DVDS and books.
The views were amazing and added bonus we woke up to baby Llamas.

Highly recommend and I would 100% stay there again, as the owners definitely understand the simply pleasures whilst camping is needed.

Disliked Other people not leaving it clean after use. There was a mop to clean the floor after showering so note to others, leave it as you find it, as it is a gem of a place and the owners put a lot of care and thought into the facilities.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked Fourth stay .its as near to wild camping you can get without wild camping . Only 5 pitches so lots of space and no one in front of your pitch, for uninterrupted views of souther fell and Blencathra. One of my favourite sites. One shower room that has sink and toilet and always clean.
