  • Campsite with spectacular views over Dentdale in the Yorkshire Dales
  • Settle-Carlisle Railway 10 minutes’ drive; Howgills hiking 15 minutes
  • The Woolshed and Dent Village Heritage Centre and Museum both on site
Yorkshire dales don’t come much prettier than Dentdale, or Yorkshire dales villages much prettier than Dent, so staying at High Laning Caravan & Camping Park means you get double lucky. The site’s less than five minutes’ walk from the village, and all the pitches look out over the breathtaking scenery of Dentdale, right on the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This family-run site is set on a traditional dales farm, still working after many years and generations. Pitches are spacious and handily close to the shops, pubs and cafés of Dent, while major supermarket top-ups can be done in Sedbergh (15 minutes’ drive). However, you don’t have to wander very far from your pitch to learn about Yorkshire dales history; High Laning Farm is home to both the Dent Village Heritage Centre and Museum (featuring tall tales about The Terrible Knitters of Dent and the Dent Vampire), and The Woolshed, a purpose-built emporium selling hand-crafted woollen knitwear. If that doesn’t appeal, there are endless walking paths through and around Dent for walkers, along with miles of road cycling through stunning scenery. If the dales themselves can’t keep you all happily occupied and entertained, the family attractions of the Lake District National Park are only 35 minutes’ drive.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Friendly staff. Availability. Good natured site. Great location right in Dent village. Great walks right from the campsite. Lots of hot water for dishwashing. Book stall for charity.

Disliked: Lower field toilets not able to cope with the full campsite, (but plenty of capacity at the top field). No Wifi in the bottom field (But 4G is good Labara)

Liked: Dent is a gorgeous, quiet village. Nice little pubs & access to lovely walks near by.

I found facilities clean & the gent on site extremely friendly.

Disliked: The only way to put it was it was carnage. We signed in & was told to wait for somebody on the field, we had no idea who we were looking out for. After waiting we were approached & told to hold on until the lady came & told us where to go. The lady was very abrupt and made us feel quite uncomfortable at first. It definitley was not a great first impression or welcome. There are no pitches set out - it feels like we were all just crammed together. You had to be so careful not to trip over the rope at either side of your tent as it was so close. The showers were 40p and only took 20p - the shower only lasted 4 minutes - not the 10 it says!

This could be a gorgeous site. I think it just needs to be more organised. Don’t pitch people as they arrive, have them ready as you could see people get restless having to wait & it got extremely busy. I also would reduce the amount you let on site, it was far too busy & because of that we wouldn’t stay again.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: Great location for walking and cafes in village and surround are lovely.

Disliked: BH weekend and crammed far too many vans into small spaces. Fire risk as vans either side and behind were too close. Very narrow lane from Sedburgh to campsite so drive carefully . Not as advertised. Disorganised chaos as more vans arrived. Showers need an upgrade, lots of queuing as not enough showers for the amount of people who were on site and not worth the 20p. No signal at all. Couldn’t even put the radio on as couldn’t find a signal. Expect to be woken by the cow at 7am but don’t let your dogs bark or the owner will have you !! 🤣

Liked: Nothing !

Disliked: The description on Pitchup and High Laning web sites sound fantastic the reality is quite different. We arrived early afternoon to find the only road to the site jammed both ways with cars vans and caravans. Twenty minutes later we finally managed to get through the gates and just onto site. the site was rammed to what looked like over capacity, never seen so many types of vehicles and tents parked and pitched so close together. We waited for over an hour to be told where to pitch, so did everyone else who managed to get on site, the road outside still jammed. Having approached the person who appeared to be responsible for site control twice within an hour we were told "your next" it seems he said that to everyone. The scene was that of complete chaos with kids on bikes charging through the site in and out of everything moving or not, ball games with the ball bouncing off tents, vans, cars, kids on bikes and any one in the way. The welcome leaflet second paragraph starts with the bold statement No risk assessment is necessary on environmental matters for campsite users, I'm sure it doesn't if your used to been involved in chaos, mayhem and drunken rebellion. We like a drink but this place was taking it to a new level.
The time we spent waiting for a pitch? was spent wisely looking for another site not on Pitchup, having found one we escaped the train crash without staying. We wrote off our money as a bad experience but we got out alive one.
Pitchup need to visit some sites more often to verify authenticity of information given. This site in our opinion was ram them in and take as much money as possible mentality. This is our first, and hopefully last bad review ever given on any type of forum.

Liked: Dent is a beautiful characterful village nestled in a valley.

Disliked: We arrived Good Friday and it was chaos. We had pre-booked a HARD STANDING pitch and was put down in the corner of the field on grass, wedged in between tents and a camper. We are in a motorhome. There was a path behind us with constant footfall. Spacing was not adequate between us, next doors tent was so close, we had to be careful not to trip on the guy rope & there was no space to sit out at the side of our vehicle. On our second day we came back to find a caravan was pitched in front of us. It was more like Glastonbury than a camp site. We will not be returning to this site for these reasons. I dont think it was safe, if there was a fire, it would have spread so quickly. Nowhere near enough facilities for the amount of people. The electric hook up was overloaded with splitter on splitter!!

Nice walks and pubs

Disliked: Booked for 3 nights, arrived late and couldn’t find a pitch with electric hook up so had to wait until the next day for a pitch. (It was a bank holiday weekend however and was told it had been quite crazy and chaotic but everything was sorted the next day)

Having to pay for shower facilities
