Local attractions

Take a stroll from your lodge and you can be climbing the Old Man of Coniston, wandering to waterfalls for a wild swim or heading over to Coniston Water for lakeside walks, canoeing or paddleboarding. There’s also the option of trying out one of the local mountain bike trails or plumping for a cruise on a National Trust-run steam yacht gondola from the lakeshore. More hikes? There are almost too many to choose from, but a few popular locations nearby include the Coniston Copper Mines (10 minutes’ drive), Tarn Hows (15 minutes), Skelwith Force (15 minutes) and Rydal Water (25 minutes). Scafell Pike (25 minutes) presents a good challenge for more intrepid hikers, or perhaps Helvellyn (50 minutes). Time for something more sedate? Visit the art collection and gardens of Brantwood (10 minutes), see Beatrix Potter’s former home at National Trust - Hill Top (20 minutes) or head to the eastern shore of Windermere for the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (35 minutes) and Blackwell - the Arts & Crafts House (40 minutes).
