  • Friendly site in the grounds of historic Stretton House
  • A 10-minute drive from Pickmere Lake; and 20 minutes from Manley Mere
  • Farm shop nearby; barbecues and firepits allowed
If you like the sound of having farm shops and ice cream farms nearby, as well as access to lots of walking and cycling trails, Stretton House Campsite should be a fine pick for you. It has a strict no noise policy after 10pm, meaning that you should get a peaceful night's sleep too. This site is in the grounds of the 400-year-old Stretton House surrounded by the Cheshire countryside with handy transport links nearby and outdoor activities in no short supply… that includes things like alpaca walking, golf or Manley Mere’s watersports haven (a 20-minute drive away for the latter). You’ll have your pick of two fields, both with car parking by the pitch free of charge and dogs allowed. There are basic facilities including a mobile freshwater toilet block with male and female facilities and a water standpipe. You’ll have permission to start up a barbecue or firepit too (subject to the correct safety measures). When you’re ready to get going, the friendly owners will be willing to help out however they can and suggest possible days out, which may include fishing or walking at Pickmere Lake (10 minutes’ drive), visiting an ice cream farm (within 10 minutes’ drive of the site) or going to the local golf course (five minutes’ drive). For food, there’s a farm shop just two minutes’ walk away from the site where you’ll be able to get your hands on local produce. Pubs aren’t far away either – there is one pub five minutes' walk away, and another 15 minutes' walk away. Festival goers are very welcome, and the Creamfields Festival site is five minutes’ drive away. Please respect the quiet hours (no noise is permitted after 10pm) and environment, as the owners' home is on the grounds (and stick to the field's facilities only).

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Good location, close to motorway, a farm shop across the road and a couple of good, dog friendly pubs in walking distance.

Disliked: Expensive for what you got. £5 a night for the dog is a lot. Ground was rutted and poorly maintained. Portacabin toilets OK but not good enough for £35 a night. No shower and no electric hook-up.

From the manager: Hi Robert,

Thank you for your booking and your review. I note your comments re the minor rutting on the field. Rather than poor maintenance this represents winter drainage that has been completed to improve the site. The price for pets is clearly advertised and it is your choice whether or not to book for your dog if the price doesn’t appeal. I am surprised that you have chosen to mark us down for services we don’t advertise. As an aside, later this season we will have a shower block that we are renovating currently.

Basic campsite site with toilets, would of stayed longer with showers.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: As a Group of 6 20 year olds we were not profiled as being inconsiderate or rowdy etc which was rare and were accepted into the nice campsite and the owner was very friendly

Disliked: Ground surface wasn't great but we did go in autumn , and we were also towed out for free by the man with no drama and very quick response time

From the manager: Hi anonymous, thank you for staying with us at Stretton House Campsite. We assume you didn’t look at the information available online with our listing or at the information we sent out to you before your arrival which would no doubt have helped with some of your issues. Larger motor homes are advised to use the exit, rather than the entrance as per our pre-arrival details. The chemical toilet disposal is available on request as we have to protect our septic tank from chemicals. As advertised there are no hardstandings. We are glad you noted how clean we keep our facilities but disappointed you seem to have marked us down for not having facilities we do not advertise.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The site was a large open space and you could pitch up wherever you wanted. During low season, great for families as has lots of space to run around. Best for a stopover as there are only toilets on site, no washing up facilities or showers.

Disliked: Washing up was difficult as there wasn't an facilities to do this.
