Romance may well be in the air for guests at Overwater Luxury Glamping – the cabins at this Cheshire site are well set up for couples’ glamping breaks, whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for a little bit of luxury. What is it that makes this place so enticing for a loved-up break? Well, the location is a good start – it's in a quiet spot alongside an old railway cutting (all that remains of the old Gingerbread Line) and next to Overwater Marina, so it’s got lovely views out over the water. Guests can relax by the fishing and wildlife lakes, sit and watch the colourful canal boats or take a stroll along the Shropshire Union Canal towpath as far as Audlem (a 20-minute walk that rewards you with a choice of pubs and cafés). And the cabins themselves are equally fabulous – each one has a comfy bed, a well-equipped kitchen area and an ensuite bathroom, plus a heater and all sorts of extra furnishings to bring that luxury vibe. Given the gorgeous location you may well want to spend some time outside too, so the cabins all have their own private outdoor area with atmospheric lighting, a love seat and a chiminea to cuddle up by as the sun goes down. What’s missing from the picture? Perhaps a bottle of bubbly, some chocolates or a classic bunch of red roses… all of which can be ordered in advance to provide an extra boost of romance. Or maybe what you’d really like is a warm scone or home-made cake… in which case you’ll need to wander over to the site’s café, which serves baked goodies, hot drinks and hot and cold meals.

Hodnet cabin (hot tub)

Liked: The layout of the old train carriage was absolutely amazing and set up was fantastic. For a small space it didn't feel small. The carriage was very clean, also had WiFi Alexa,TV a number of board games. A fantastic info sent by email. Cakes milk coffee teabags all provided has a welcome pack all free which was fantastic, clean towels and toweling robes, shower was spacious and fantastic, toilet roll provided not one or two but loads of rolls. Hot tub was great when hot this was controlled by a wood burner system and everything there for it to work IE matches fire lighters loads of kindling and loads of wooden logs which was also restocked daily. We couldn't fault the place.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Wellington cabin (hot tub)

Liked: The cabin was beautiful with thoughtful touches such as books and games. Plenty of firewood, firestarters and matches. Lovely welcome gifts of wine and even a small bottle of milk.
The surroundings are so peaceful and a walk along the canal was lovely. The stagger inn is just a small walk away from the route to the canal, perfect to stop in for a drink.

Hodnet cabin (hot tub)

Liked: We stayed in the Hodnet for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The 'hut' is absolutely fantastic, everything you can think of is in there. It's cosy and warm and the log fired hot tub is amazing, we spent hours in it.
The staff are lovely and helpful, the onside cafe is also friendly and serves delicious food.
An easy walk into Audlem, with other walks from the site. Audlem has 3 pubs, Our favourite was the Shroppie Fly, great food and drink and right next to the canal.

Disliked: Having to come home!

Wellington cabin (hot tub)

Liked: We loved the hot tub how it was lit with the fire to heat, thought it was very unique. The bed was comfier than mine at home! And so cozy behind the walls (we stayed in the wellington). We wanted a peaceful weekend that was quiet away from work and it really give us that, lovely campers on the site, and very polite staff who just left you to it. We will definitely be coming back. The wellington was very secluded and you felt like you were on the site alone! My favourite bit was the oven, I wanted to take it home it was so cute!! The bedding was so clean, the room was tidy and overall it was a lovely experience. It was our first get away as a couple and will not be the last get away here!!! Also it’s not often I like showers away from home, but this one was better than mine!

Disliked: Nothing, which is unusual for me to say!!!

Hodnet cabin (hot tub)

Liked: The place is absolutely fantastic and the stuff are amazing. The best I have been to yet and I’ve been to lots of different glamping places, but this is far under above the best service the best quality the best location that I have been to so far.

Disliked: Everything was perfect. I have no complaints at all.

Hodnet cabin (hot tub)

Liked: Absolutley everything! The site was so clean, relaxing and quiet. We stayed in the Hodnet cabin and it was so well equipped. We packed extra things such as washing up liquid, toilet rolls and didn't use any of it, they even supplied us tea, coffee, sugar and milk!

So much wood supplied for the hot tub, more than enough to last the two nights we stayed. Hot tub was emptied for us whilst we went out for the day and refilled so it was clean for us to get in the next night.

The cabin was so clean, the heater in there was great and heated the cabin up quickly (which was needed when the sun wasnt out). Bed was comfortable and plenty of space under the bed for us to store our luggage.

There was a small TV so we could watch a film when we went to bed and there was an Alexa so we could listen to the radio and spotify.

We went for breakfast in the Cafe on site and it was delicious.

Couldnt recommend any more and will definitely be returning!

Disliked: Not classed as a dislike really, the hot tub took a long time to heat up but the weather was cold too so probably didnt help!

Local attractions

Staying by a canal, you’ll surely want to take a walk along the towpath – or perhaps a boat trip? The park runs boat rides through high season for very minimal prices. Swimming in the canal is clearly less of a good idea, so if you fancy a dip, head to Alderford Lake (15 minutes’ drive) or the brine pool in Nantwich (20 minutes). While you’re in Nantwich, take a stroll around the town centre, said to have one of the highest concentrations of listed buildings in England. Whitchurch and Market Drayton are also worth a wander – both are 20 minutes away, with the latter particularly famed for its gingerbread making. Other options for days out might include finding your way to the Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker (10 minutes), strolling through the Dorothy Clive Garden (20 minutes) and Hodnet Hall Gardens (25 minutes) or exploring all the intriguing corners of the 100-acre site of Hawkstone Park Follies (half an hour).
