  • Peaceful dog-friendly Northumberland touring pitches in Slaley Forest
  • A 15-minute drive from Corbridge, Hadrian’s Wall and Hexham
  • Bar, restaurant and large play area on site
Surrounded by Slaley Forest in Northumberland, the touring pitches at Springhouse Boutique Holiday Park are just as peaceful as they are scenic. And that’s not all that there is to like about this dog-friendly site, as there’s always something to do locally, whether your plans involve walking, cycling, wildlife spotting, heritage outings or admiring the dark skies. That excellent list of activities is down to the location – the site is within 15 minutes’ drive of Corbridge, Hexham and Derwent Reservoir. There's good access to lots of other top-notch Northumberland spots from this park too. For example, hikers need only take a 10-minute drive to get to the edge of the North Pennines or a 15-minute drive to hit the Hadrian's Wall Path. Your local town here is Corbridge, a place with a traditional marketplace, a bakery and an old-fashioned grocer. The Roman town also has an open-air museum and rare Roman armour. You might want to grab a pub lunch while you're out, as historical pubs also line the streets. Hexham is another fine spot nearby – on the banks of the river Tyne, this market town has a large abbey, museum, park and lots of different eateries. Back at the park, an on-site restaurant and bar take care of those times when you want a relaxed meal, a refreshing pint or a hot brew, and there's a spacious play area to keep the kids busy. Other facilities include showers, toilets and a launderette.

Cedar Close powered gravel travel trailer campsite (water hook-up)

Liked: The site was in excellent condition , the staff in the reception were great as were the staff and home owners who held a barbecue on the sat and the Easter egg hunt on the Sunday , could not fault anyone , the shower block was well looked after and clean

Disliked: The small road leading to the site was full of deep pot holes so made the drive in a bit difficult to manage , the site did say it’s getting fixed soon though

Cedar Close powered gravel travel trailer campsite (water hook-up)

Liked: We had an amazing stay in our own caravan on one of the non awning pitches. The site is peaceful and welcoming. My children immediately made friends with other children on site, ensuring they were well occupied and entertained during the evenings after days out.

The site is well equipped for children. The play park is brilliant and has equipment for children of all ages. The attached football pitch is well used and was very much enjoyed by my children. There is also a field area above the football pitch which my son and husband enjoyed flying their remote control aeroplanes on. Whilst the site is large it feels very safe. I was happy to my children to be out and about, reminding me much of my own childhood holidays in the 90s. Cars travelled very slowly and were respectful of the onsite speed limit.

For the first time since I became a parent, I was able to read three books during my holiday, simply because the children were so well entertained and catered for. We visited the on site bar on our final night. They had a good selection of drinks at a reasonable price. We did not sample the food, however we heard good reviews from others.

The shower block was good. It contained several stand alone toilet cubicles and three complete, lockable shower rooms with toilet and sink. This was helpful for showering the children and there was plenty of space to get them dry and dressed again.

There is an onsite launderette which we did not use. The park reception stocks a small stock of snacks and essentials (we forgot to buy milk!)

Disliked: It would have been useful to have a power outlet in the toilet block for a hairdryer, however we survived without it!
The private access road is not in the best condition, however it can be navigated easily by driving carefully and slowly.

Liked: We had a lovely night at this beautiful, peaceful site. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. The toilets and showers were spotless. The warden couldn't have been more helpful.
Other reviews have mentioned the access road, the condition of this road is fine it is a narrow road which you would expect on a rural site. I would definitely recommend if you are in the area.

Disliked: I think the opening timings that the bar/restaurant should be advertised on pitch up.

Cedar Close powered gravel travel trailer campsite (water hook-up)

Liked: The site was immaculate. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The woodland walk for the dog and kids was great. For the size of the site the park for the kids is really good (zip line, swings, assault course). Kids rode around the site on their bikes it felt super safe and everyone drove very respectfully. The little bar was cute although we didn’t dine in. The toilets/showers are unisex which doesn’t bother us there’s locks on the doors, I’m not a wash room snob as long as they are clean and usable which they were, there’s three rooms. Full shower cubicle, toilet and sink in each one and more than enough space to fit all 4 of us in one room. Could do with plugs so you could dry your hair while in there. We enjoy it, very quiet and peaceful site and we’ve booked again.

Disliked: The road in and out is very country road not wide enough in most places for two cars to pass with out pulling in never mind towing a caravan as well. It stressed me the hell out but the hubby said it was fine as he just made other people back up.

Liked: Friendly, helpful staff. Site kept clean. Once on site, good sized gravel pitches with water on tap and electric. Lots of rabbits 🐰

Disliked: Access road appalling when towing a caravan - very uneven with large potholes. More a static site than touring. Cars parked near reception meant no space for caravan when checking in. Our recommendation is based on our experience of towing a caravan, not on using a static property. Not a big fan of unisex toilets either

Local attractions

Must be within reach of a golf course at all times? Then it’ll be handy to know that Springhouse Boutique Holiday Park is a 10-minute drive from the nearest one. If you prefer activities that’ll push your limits, try out the zipwires at Go Ape Matfen (25 minutes) or the sailing, windsurfing and open-water swimming organised by the sailing club at Derwent Reservoir (15 minutes). One big attraction around these parts is Beamish, the Living Museum of the North (40 minutes). Spread out across the countryside, its open-air exhibits re-tell the lives of local British people from the 1820s through to the 1950s. Of course, you don’t want to forget about Northumberland National Park (40 minutes) either, especially if you like hiking. The national park trails weave past hillforts, quarries, Hadrian’s Wall, hills and crags. Kielder Water (an hour) is one of the national park’s many spectacular spots, with trails heading into the forest or around the 26-mile shore. Stop by the osprey viewing point to try your luck, before sipping on a hot brew in the café.
