Camping field with the sea beyond

  • Simple pitches in a large field with views to the Northumberland coast
  • A five-minute drive to Craster or Dunstanburgh Castle
  • Pizza shop and café/gift shop over the road; Embleton 15 mins' walk
This is one of those excellent locations that’s both thoroughly rural and also highly convenient. The Afterlands is a simple site in the Northumberland Coast National Landscape, with fantastic views across the surrounding fields towards the sea in the distance, but with village and other amenities handily close by. The majority of those amenities are in Embleton, which is 15 minutes’ walk away and home to a couple of pubs and a farm shop. Even closer are the gift shop, café and pizza shop just over the road, and the bus stops just outside the site (for services to Alnwick, Berwick-upon-Tweed and Bamburgh, among other places). This location also puts you within easy reach of all sorts of ways to fill your days, whether you fancy taking an easy half-hour walk from the site to Embleton Bay, checking out the area’s many castles or boarding boat trips to the wildlife-filled Farne Islands. Walks, bike rides and birdwatching are all popular local activities, and there are surf beaches (and surf lessons) close by as well. Life on site is pretty simple – you’ll be staying in a large open field with plenty of space for your awning, gazebo and camping chairs for a comfortable stay. There are portable toilets for use in the field, but please note there are no showers or electric connections on site.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked Plenty of space on the site and tidy close to the beach and Embleton village the Grey Inn is a good shout for food and drink and the golf course near Embleton beach is reasonable for food and drink as well and nice to sit outside.

Disliked Only two porter loos on site could have done with one more and having them spread out along the site abit.

Recommend to friends Visit again

Could maybe do with another couple of toilets

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked Lots of space to separate yourself from other campers if need be.
Nice aspect with short walk to cafe and sour dough pizza caravan in evenings.

Disliked Feel it’s expensive for a patch of grass with two port a loos and one tap which are potentially a long walk away.
Missed not having any showers.
If you’re a light sleeper, pigeons and crows or cars on road next to pitches may wake you up

Primitive grass and earth RV campsite

Liked We’re new to campervan life and were thrilled to find The Afterlands pop-up site. It was a brilliant spot for our campervan with plenty of space. As we were totally self-sufficient, the simple setup suited us perfectly. A big bonus was The Pizza Café just across the road — very popular and delicious! We also loved the flexibility of arrival and check-out. The beach was only a 20-minute walk away and well worth it — white sandy shores where my son braved a swim (brrr!) and was even joined by two sea lions 🦭. Friendly staff and super easy check-in. No dislikes at all — we’d definitely return!
