  • Pop-up touring site overlooking the Northumberland coast
  • Dunstanburgh Castle 15 minutes' drive; 20 minute to Alnwick
  • Dog-friendly site 10 minutes' walk from the beach and local pub
Fancy nesting in the Northumberland National Landscape for a little while – and with a sea view too? Motorhome and caravan tourers can do so in a fabulous location at Link House Farm, a pop-up site on a farm overlooking the coast about half a mile from the village of High Newton-by-the-Sea. This is a no-frills setup, with no electric hookups and just portable toilets and a a chemical disposal point on the facilities front, but it's mightily peaceful and scenic – the spacious pitching field is level and in an elevated position to give it wonderful views over coast and countryside. It's a laidback place where kids and dogs are welcome (as long as the latter are kept on leads so they don't disturb livestock in the neighbouring fields). Being able to see the sea from the site should give you a hint that there's beach action not far away – and in fact it’s only about a 10-minute walk to Link House beach, a long dog-friendly stretch of sand. The local pub is also only about 10 minutes' walk away – just the spot for a refreshing drink after a long coastal walk or perhaps a round at one of the golf courses spread along this stretch of coast. There’s some great birdwatching in this area too, particularly in the wildlife ponds at Low Newton-by-the-Sea or along the Long Nanny river estuary. Sea fishing, watersports and cycle rides may also fill some of your time – or perhaps touring historic castles like Alnwick, Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh, all of which are within a 20-minute drive.

What customers say

Great, quiet spot with lovely views, steps from beaches & pubs. Spacious, level field. Basic but clean portaloos & water points. Some want better facilities in peak season, but most loved it and want to come back.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Incredibly quiet - only 5 other vans on the site and loads of space between them all made for a fantastic couple of nights away. Literally 10 minutes walk to a gorgeous beach if you turn left at the exit of the site/field or the pub if you turn right. Easy to find a flat area to park the campervan without having to use any levelling blocks. Portaloos incredibly clean. Perfect site for what we wanted- would definitely recommend for people who want a quiet site with no bells or whistles in a beautiful location.

Disliked Grey waste disposal a bit high/awkward but that could just be because we were first timers!

From the manager: Hi
I assume you meant "black waste"?? Chemical toilet disposal. As on most farms we supply IBC tanks as they are portable and easy to move off site when we close. There is also a smaller portable Yellow tank (lower height) at the other end of the site.
Grey waste is just realised on to the field as its just your washing up/shower water

A great and reasonable site. Would definitely return.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked The location was perfect, 10 minute walk to the beach then about a mile or so along the costal path to a fantastic pub and more stunning beaches. There was a lovely little selection of veg to buy and an honesty box next to an allotment which was next to the site. Also a generous check out time of 12. We would definitely go back. There are only porta loos so we would m only stay 1 night at a time, 1 night was all we needed so just right for us.

Local attractions

There’s almost no avoiding castles in this area, which was at the forefront of potential invasions for centuries. Along the coast, a couple of popular spots are the atmospheric ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle (15 minutes' drive) and the imposing Bamburgh Castle (20 minutes), a place full of tales of knights, dragons and Vikings. Lindisfarne Castle (40 minutes) on Holy Island is another wonderful place to visit. Inland, the likes of Alnwick Castle (20 minutes), Chillingham Castle (35 minutes) and National Trust - Cragside (45 minutes) hold plenty of appeal for history lovers (and Harry Potter fans too, in the case of Alnwick). For wildlife outings, take a boat trip to the Farne Islands from Seahouses (15 minutes) or visit Andy Howey’s Birds of Prey and Reptiles Centre (half an hour). Something a bit active? There’s a surf school in Amble (20 minutes) and several golf courses close by, including Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Course (10 minutes) and Seahouses Golf Club (15 minutes), both with fabulous (albeit possibly distracting) sea views.
