Sunset over robin hood's bay

  • Dog-friendly farm site one mile from Robin Hood's Bay
  • Walking distance from the beach, village and the Cleveland Way
  • Horses welcome; shops and restaurants nearby
Robin Hood’s Bay was once the stomping ground of smugglers, but you’ll be the new sharks about this place… you see, Farsyde Farm is only one mile from the beach and village, so you’ll be well-based for hunting down rockpools, ancient fossils and cobbled streets chock-full with independent shops, pubs and fish and chip shops. Plus, you’ll get to freestyle right onto the Cinder Track or Cleveland Way, as both trails are 10 minutes' walk away. More on that new den of yours… the peaceful Farsyde Farm is surrounded by the coast and countryside, and the large field spies over the grand Ravenscar cliffs, the countryside and the sea. When you’re not preoccupied with the views and splendid sunrises or sunsets, dark starry nights take over by night – just the thing after a day spent walking, mountain biking or following family trails locally. When it comes to getting your go-to snacks and meals, there’s no need to put the car into action either. The village and its well-stocked shops are 15 minutes’ walk away along the Cleveland Way. Of course, the beach might very well reel you in with its rockpools and fossils (just be sure to take care, especially with the kids). There are good facilities on site, including two flushing toilets, showers, a tap and a washing-up area. Those of you who have horses in your flock will be happy to find they’re welcome too, and guided rides are available. An added bonus is that this site is home to a flock of adorable Valais Blacknose sheep and a small herd of alpacas.

Primitive cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked Great location - quiet, not far from the cliff top. There's a footpath so you can easily walk down to Robin Hoods Bay. Check-in was easily done by text and there was good hardstanding. The toilets were clean and hand soap was provided.

Disliked The shower wasn't working during our stay which was unfortunate and it would have been good to know in advance - luckily we had showered at the previous site. There is a separate sink for washing up but unfortunately it only has cold water - I know you can boil a kettle to add hot water but that would be a number of kettles full and lots of treking backwards and forwards. On Pitchup the first words of description are "Dog-friendly farm site" but we were told we couldn't walk our dog on the field. When we asked why we were told it was because the owner was trying to keep the field clean for kids. In our opinion we shouldn't have been charged anything for having a dog seeing as there were no fcilities provided for them.
This experience contrasted with the site we'd just come from which was fully serviced with electric hook up, hot showers and was proper dog friendly for just £3 more than we paid here.

From the manager: Dogs are welcome however not everyone is a dog lover or wants their children playing where dogs have used as a toilet - there is a footpath straight outside the entrance gate. Unfortunately the shower wasn't working . This was a brand new unit installed by a plumber who came out straight away to try and fix the fault. This has now been referred to the manufacturer as faulty and another shower bought.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The location is perfect, a short and beautiful walk from everything you might need. Check-in was easy, text/call the number and you’re greeted at the gate. Then being surrounded by happy animals is always nice. We had a really lovely stay.

Disliked There’s not hot water but you’re asked to pay £1 for a shower, bit odd considering it’s not a cheap site but also not a biggie.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Close to local town. Great views and good walks close by. Good amount of space between pitches. Large wash up sink. Good rules on site that are well communicated on check in.

Disliked Only 2 toilets for whole camp site and one shower, which was temperamental if it wanted to stay warm or not

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked There only one reason to stay in this campsite. Location. The view is amazing and walk into Robin Hood's Bay a treat.

Disliked Facilities, while clean, were lacking. Only 2 toilets, meaning a queue at busy times (evenings and mornings) and one shower which cost £1!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Views , loads of space for your tents and a beautiful walk to Robin Hood's Bay doesn't warrant your rating. Two toilets is more than adequate for the size of the campsite. We were relatively quiet the week you stayed so highly unlikely that there were queues unless you were queuing with your own family! £1 for unlimited time in the shower. All the information about the campsite is there on Pitchup to read before you book.

Local attractions

So, where to get walking to? You’ll be going off-road on the 22-mile Cinder Track (10 minutes' walk). Depending on which way you go, Scarborough or Whitby could be your end destination… with the latter, you’ll be on track for the gothic-style Whitby Abbey (15 minutes' drive), and spooky it is, as the 13th-century abbey was the inspiration for the Dracula novel. The Cleveland Way (10 minutes' walk) is another cycling or walking route pretty much on your doorstep. It passes through Scarborough and Whitby too, as well the North York Moors and Saltburn-by-the-Sea – there are 109 miles, so you may want to be choosy about which section you go for. When you’re ready to rest your feet, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (25 minutes' drive) is right and ready for a steam railway trip, perhaps on one of the historic Pullman carriages. As for those of you who aren’t ready for the action-packed activities to end just yet, there are the zipwires and treetop obstacles at Go Ape Dalby (45 minutes) or wakeboarding, paddleboarding, kayaking and an aqua park at North Yorkshire Water Park (45 minutes).
