Too disorganised for us, so we moved on after 2 nights instead of 5.
Powered grass and gravel tent or RV campsite (medium)
Liked No electricity when we arrived - host did best to sort this out. Helpful hosts.
No water later that first evening because a previous camper had banged a peg into the pipe! Again - host sorted this out the next morning and to be fair refunded us for the night.
Disliked Smaller than looked on the pictures - motorhomes in very close proximity.
More suited to camping & glamping.
Toilets are in a porta cabin.
Showers are in a potentially nice wooden hut - but water temp is pre-set! (too cold for us) & there are cobwebs, spiders & spiders nests everywhere. Needs a very good clean!
Elsan unit is raised above ground - making the stench unbearable - most sites have these underground!
Nothing around a 20-minute walk into Pickering - was hoping for trails that were more easily accessible.

From the manager: Thank you for your tips. We have turned up the water temperature. There is a new boiler on the showers in the stable block and I think that the change of season/water temperature may have been the reason why it was cooler. If you had mentioned it whilst you were here we would have happily turned it up for you.
Re pitch sizes. Our photos show how big each pitch size is and the pitch sizes are clearly stated on Pitch Up listing.
We have cleared any cobwebs away in the stable block, but we did not see 'cobwebs, spiders & spiders nests everywhere'. We only saw a few cobwebs. As this is in an open stable block, cobwebs can appear overnight, but we will try to be extra vigilant in future.
The Elsan unit is deliberately raised so that it is easier for guests to pour away waste without having to bend down. The odour is only noticeable when you open the top, but as it is no where near the pitches or car park, it is not a major problem for campers. Unfortunately, emptying a toilet cartridge is always a smelly business.
A little confused about you mentioning that there were no walks considered that we are near an old railway track, lots of public footpaths and a woodland north of the steam train station. We are also at the start of the Pickering to Malton cycle route. Again, if you had asked us, we would have been happy to show you.
Genuine apologies for the lack of water on the evening of your first night from about 9pm. Mark did his best in the dark to dig up the damaged waterpipe from a campers tent peg and the water returned by the morning. The reason why it could not be fixed immediately was because it was a Sunday evening and partners could not be bought, but he was able to purchasers first thing at 7am and back on for 9am.
I believe Mark lent you an extension cable for your EHU. Apologies for the half hour that you were without electricity because the power button hadn't been turned on for you at the EHU. I'm sorry to hear that you felt that your birthday weekend had been ruined by thie electricity being off for this period of time.
We have had the comment about you saying that we had somehow revised the refund we gave you for the first night as our bank records clearly show the payment going out to you.
It seems Swallowtails is not the campsite for you. We hope you find somewhere else more suitable to you needs. All the best.
