  • Luxury shepherd’s hut with a bathroom and kitchen cabin in an orchard
  • A 15-minute drive from Southwold, Walberswick and Dunwich
  • Barbecue, outdoor seating and a firepit; walk to the village pub
Keen to go somewhere that feels wild but still has plenty of creature comforts? The Orchard Wagon is a completely private wagon tucked into the corner of a Suffolk orchard where apples are grown for cider and apple juice. It’s within 15 minutes’ drive of the beaches in Dunwich, Walberswick and Southwold, as well as a short walk from the local pub. Suited to those who want to get back to basics and be surrounded by greenery, the wagon comfortably sleeps two people and includes a private bathroom and kitchen cabin. There are doubled-windowed doors and a double bed (measuring one and a half by two metres). Don’t forget the smart little woodburning stove, which will keep you toasty as you watch the stunning Suffolk sunsets. Cooking couldn’t be easier in the aforementioned kitchen cabin, which is well-equipped and next door to the wagon, or on the barbecue at the stone terrace in front. The cabin has a stove and a food preparation area with a bottled water supply. Light the firepit to keep you warm as you eat alfresco, too. Handily, the outdoor furniture is foldable. A stepping stone-style path behind the wagon leads to a shed, which has three separate rooms for washing up dishes, showering and using the composting loo. There’s plenty of hot water… and for those who like communing with nature, try showering with the door open – what a view. Sourcing supplies is no trouble. The Suffolk market town of Halesworth has a large supermarket and a good selection of shops, and is just a five-minute drive away. There is also a lovely bakery-patisserie café a few minutes’ drive away in Darsham. In Bramfield village, a couple of minutes' drive or a 20-minute walk away, there's a butcher and grocers, as well as a popular pub-restaurant with a beer garden (booking is recommended). Where to go for a beach day? In Walberswick, 15 minutes’ drive away, the sand dunes lead to a gorgeous sand and pebble beach. Dunwich Heath and beach (also 15 minutes' drive away) are stunning spots where you can grab fish and chips in the café afterwards. Otherwise, head to Southwold for old-fashioned pier games, a sandy beach and the famed colourful beach huts.
