  • Peaceful rural site on a smallholding three miles from Halesworth
  • 25 minutes' drive from the seaside town of Southwold
  • Barbecue area, picnic tables and occasional live music on site
Pick a pitch at Paradise Barn Camping and Caravanning and you’ll most likely have some rather beastly neighbours… rabbits, deer and pheasants are among the wild visitors often spotted here, and you may well also hear a bit of chat from the resident barn owl. They’re attracted to this 14-acre Suffolk smallholding by the quiet country setting, the well-kept gardens and lack of noisome passing traffic. Those aspects tend to be pretty appealing to humanfolk too, as are the spacious pitches and the dark skies, which make an excellent backdrop to a fine evening round the campfire. Going with that peaceful territory is easy access to a network of quiet rural roads for leisurely walks or bike rides (you can make the 10-mile journey to Flixton or Bungay without clapping eyes on a main road) and a clutch of country pubs, including a couple in Halesworth, three miles away. Fishing folks may fancy trying their luck at the trout lake next door or taking a trip on the site’s sea fishing boat from Lowestoft, 20 miles away. Evenings on site tend to be fairly chilled affairs, as guests gather round the barbecues and picnic tables for their alfresco feasts, although occasionally there’s live music and other entertainment to get the party going.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked The site was well placed in order to visit the surrounding Suffolk countryside and beaches. There is a handy Coop for groceries and fuel just 7 min drive away. The toilets and showers were very clean and cleaned every morning. The site itself is spacious and quiet- especially loved hearing the cows in the morning 😀

Disliked One very small observation- could do with a hook in the shower room to hang clothes as the floor gets very wet!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely little private site for adults only. It is tucked away nicely to allow for a quiet camping experience. There was also a bbq and live music being held which was nice. Site is in a good location to go out exploring Southwold, Lowestoft and other local towns and villages.

Disliked Showers were not functioning as they should.

From the manager: We are a campsite with basic facilities, toilets and showers... Our other reviews (and there are many of them) state quite the opposite to this review, so we won't worry too much about it. I did consider removing the toilets and showers completely so that caravans just used their own toilets and emptied them in the chemical disposal point, it would get rid of any bad reviews.... unfortunately would spoil the site for 90% of the happy people.

Lovely clean facilities, Alan and Janet…

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely clean facilities, Alan and Janet were amazing hosts. We had a logfire on our first night and they put on music and a bbq on the second night. Great atmosphere and it felt like friends gathered, rather than a campsite. We will be going back same time next year. Thankyou both.

Powered grass campsite

Liked The hosts were great, they were welcoming and put on a good show and BBQ for all guests on Sunday.

Disliked Shower facilities were not good, only one of the three available was able to be used. Also, having paid the deposit online, I found it strange that the balance of the site fees had to be paid in cash as they did not have a card facility. I've never known this on a CCC site before. I'm sure it's all above board but it meant finding a cash machine and withdrawing a substantial amount of cash on my credit card with charges incurred for that.

Liked Enjoyed my stay at Paradise Barn. Only my second visit but sure there will be many more.
Lovely big field with a pond in one corner. Watched a deer and the birds enjoying themselves. Met Pancake who is one of the owner's cats.
Had a few chats with Alan the owner who is very accommodating and friendly and doing a great job along with his wife Janet.
No complaints from me. 👍🙂✌️

Local attractions

You don’t need to stray too far from Paradise Barn to find things to fill your days – as well as the trout lake next door there’s coarse fishing a mile away, and with a drive of 10 minutes or so you can be visiting the Halesworth Airfield Memorial Museum, playing a round at the local golf course or meeting the residents of Oasis Camel Park. Those fond of a tipple or two may like to take a half-hour wander over to Valley Farm Vineyards, where you can take a tour and sample some of their latest vintages. Those who prefer a pint should make a beeline for the Adnams brewery in Southwold, where you’ll see the brewing process in action before honing your beer drinking skills with a tutored tasting. Southwold’s also got a fab beach and an excellent pier with some classic seaside fun to be had at the Wacky Walk of Mirrors and the Under the Pier Show. For more watery days out, head to Beccles, half an hour away by car, to hire a boat for a day of pottering around the Norfolk Broads.
