  • Spectacular views among woodland and Broads walks
  • Canoes and kayaks available to hire
  • Three local pubs within a 20-minute walk
As you might guess from the name, Salhouse Broad's Camping Corner is a place where it’s simple to get out and about on and around the water; this pretty place is part of the Broads, the rural waterways of Norfolk and Suffok that’s a top spot for boating of all sorts. And it’s simple indeed to get out on the water from this scenic site, as it sits right by the water and guests can hire canoe and kayaks to paddle along at their own pace to nearby Wroxham or Horning. A splendid alternative is also on offer if that sounds a tad too energetic: the Salhouse Broads ranger can take up to five passengers at a time to the spectacularly scenic and serene Hoveton Great Broad Nature trail, only accessible by boat. Base yourself at Salhouse to explore the Broads by foot, bike or canoe, all among lush views, woodland and broadside walks with a variety of species to see for the nature spotters. Salhouse and Woodbastwick villages are within strolling distance at about 10 minutes each and there’s loads more to see and do within driving or public transport distance: Norwich, Wroxham and Horning are all close by and the local bus stop (with services to all three) is 10 minutes’ walk away. The bus service between Salhouse and Norwich or Wroxham operates every hour and the train service stops every two hours. Salhouse Broad's Camping Corner is a friendly, laidback and basic site for tents only, with pitches in a corner of a field close to a broad. The site has a standpipe for drinking water, portaloos within the main camping area for guests to use; please note that there are no showers or hot water. The pitching area is car-free and is 100 metres from the car park. Three pubs are within 20 minutes' walk at Woodbastwick.

What customers say

This basic, well-kept campground boasts a beautiful, peaceful setting by Salhouse Broad, perfect for watersports and nature lovers. Guests rave about the friendly staff, clean portable toilets, and car-free, child-safe pitches. Some find it rustic due to no showers/wash-up areas, but value the natural surroundings and nearby attractions. Minor noise from boats/campers reported by a few.

Primitive grass tent campsite (large)

Liked Location was great especially as we took a kayak so being right by the water was wonderful. We felt our children could play safely in the areas around the campsite and they were mostly still within earshot too. Small campsite and quiet despite pitches being closer together than we've had with other sites. We stayed for several nights so showers would have completed the stay but we knew they weren't provided and prepared for it accordingly.

Disliked Not being able to take your car to the pitch to offload/load is a real downside, especially as no wheelbarrows are provided. Toilets needed soap refilling more often and got quite smelly at times so more regular cleaning would be appreciated.

We had some issues with people pitching between posts instead of in front of them. This meant two different sets of guests were using some of our space (one immediately next to us!?) and we felt they were in our personal space. A notice on each post explaining how to pitch correctly would be helpful and ensure everyone gets the space and privacy they're entitled to.

Primitive grass tent campsite (large)

Liked The site was very clean. Cars aren't allowed by the tents which felt very safe for the kids. It's right next to the broad for water activities and the kids really enjoyed the play area next to the site.

Disliked No one was there when we arrived and another camper had to tell us where to go to find the ranger. No showers.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your review, we try to make our welcome emails as clear as possible for directions on what to do when arriving, so apologies if it wasn't clear enough. We are also working at installing showers, so watch this space!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Great back to basics camp, simple and in full nature. 1 min from Salhouse board. Fire pits available and portaloo for toilets.

Disliked No proper toilets or showers but that is the rustic appeal. So it’s no problem for us.

From the manager: Thank you Andrew for your lovely review!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Ranger very friendly, checked all was okay on first day. Clean portaloos/access to water.

Disliked Not much signage leading to campsite/some signs broken. Wasps in the ground (someone did come to smoke them out but this angered the wasps and several of my party got stung). Uneven ground, holes and whole field on a tilt.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback — we’re glad to hear you found our ranger friendly and appreciated the clean facilities and access to water.

We’re sorry to hear you had a few issues during your stay. Regarding the signage, we do try to provide clear directions in the confirmation email, but we’ll definitely take another look at the on-site signs to improve the arrival experience.

We only became aware of the wasps late on Friday and acted quickly to address the issue, not realising it might aggravate the nest further. We’re truly sorry that some of your party were stung — had we known at the time, we would’ve done our best to support you on site.

As for the ground, we’ve recently moved pitches in the camping area and are still fine-tuning the layout. We do aim to make each pitch as level and comfortable as possible and appreciate your feedback — it helps us improve for future guests.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience.
