Cafe lake area

  • Well-equipped family-friendly Norfolk site over 26 acres
  • A 35-minute drive from Norwich and 15 minutes from Snetterton Circuit
  • Licensed café, large play area and lakes for fishing on site
Among 32 acres of scenic Norfolk countryside, Old Buckenham Country Park is excellent for some serious ‘you time’. The site is dedicated to enhancing its natural habitats; surrounding the lakes are numerous mature trees, hedgerows and flower-rich grasslands, with many footpaths leading around the park. The kids are welcome to unleash their energy in the play area while adults catch up in the coffee shop. The café serves coffee but also has a licensed bar, which sells tasty light bites well into the twilight hours. The café decking overlooks the lake, so it has particularly splendid views at sunset (and there's free wifi in this area too, so you can share any snaps you take…) Be sure to unwind around your firepits in the evenings too. Grab rod and reel, for anglers, too, are invited to reserve a spot for a day of family fishing or solitary reflection. The lake has an abundance of silver fish. Fish aren’t the only animals to track down either: keep your eyes peeled for chickens (on the ground, not in the sky), ducks, geese, kingfishers, swans and owls. The site is less than five minutes’ drive from the Norfolk village of Old Buckenham.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Beautifully managed site, tranquil and picturesque. Staff extremely friendly. There's decking overlooking lake near cafe, with plenty of seating.
Children are able to enjoy themselves in the playground with large grass field, that is situated far enough away from pitches.
Lovely block toilets and showers.
Cafe does lovely, coffees and homemade cakes, and savouries.
We stayed over easter and there was a live band playing, great atmosphere.

Disliked: Showers just need attention, they spray to far forward, need directing downwards more, soak the changing area. Easy fix.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Large pitches. Modern facilities. Nice playground for families. Friendly staff. Two good pubs within a mile each way for dinner. Not cheap but excellent food. The Gamekeeper and the Kings Head. Not walkable as no street lights.

Disliked: Shower and toilet block was very modern, but so smelly! Damp smell. (Ladies). The showers did not drain properly and at one point the water was ankle deep. We booked this site as it advertised licensed bar and cafe but when we arrived we found out the facilities closed at 5. Felt we were duped. Expensive for lack of facilities.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're really sorry to hear that your experience with our shower and toilet facilities didn’t meet expectations. We’re looking into this to improve this for all our guests.

We also apologize for the disappointment around the licensed bar and café hours. While we do our best to communicate our seasonal opening times clearly, it’s clear this caused frustration, and we’ll review how this information is presented on our booking platforms to avoid any future confusion.

Your comments are truly appreciated and help us make the necessary improvements. We hope to welcome you back throughout the summer months.

Warm regards, OBCP Team.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: We stayed with our two dogs for a weekend in October. The place was very quiet which we appreciated. Plenty of dogs walking and a nice cafe shop on the site. Wifi only within the cafe area
Toilets and showers clean.

Disliked: It was our first stay on this campsite and we got a pitch near a toilet waste smelling the most of time. It didn’t make any sense since there were only a few pitches used with only a few caravans during offseason. The campsite was literally empty. Unfortunately we realised the smell after we all set up. It’s a shame because it could be such wonderful stay.

Local attractions

Anyone keen on whisky may have found a nice spot here. The site is 10 minutes’ drive from the English Whisky Co distillery. If the vino is more appealing, it’s 35 minutes from base to Winbirri Vineyard for tours and tastings of reds, whites and sparkling wines. Thirsts quenched, turn next to Snetterton Circuit (15 minutes) where – during well-timed stays – guests can join the crowds to watch the GT Cup final, Mini races, time attack trials and fireworks. Not able to travel for a race? Have a go on the circuit yourself, with track days and training days available for cars and motorbikes. Those who prefer a slower pace to their holidays can skirt Snetterton and opt instead for leisurely days among exotic birds, ferocious beasties and peaceable pets at Banham Zoo (five minutes), or hanging about with the alpacas in the nearby town of Diss (15 minutes). In Diss, there is a leisure centre and a kids' trampoline experience for any rainy days. When some time away from rural bliss is required, a 35-minute drive will land guests in Norwich to explore castle and cathedral, stroll in stunning gardens, learn a bit about history at one of the many museums, or burn a hole in wallets with shopping at the Norwich Market or in high-street stores. And if it’s the coast calling, you’re roughly an hour’s drive from the Norfolk coast, where there are sandy beaches, arcades, scenic dog walks and, of course, plenty of ice cream stops.
