Great views, peaceful vibe, & friendly owners. Clean facilities, esp. showers/toilets. Alpacas a hit! Cafe's good too. Minor points: distance to facilities, bumpy road. Highly recommend for value & quiet country escape.

Primitive cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite
Liked Easy check in. Great views. Clean facilities and a very good price. There is a bit of a walk to the facilities but I don’t feel this is a deal breaker. Beautiful Alpacas on site as well and a nice looking little cafe.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked All was good overall, and I will definitely be staying again. The views are excellent from the campsite. The shower and toilets were very clean and very acceptable.
Disliked I arrived around 7.30pm and struggled with space for my tent (One man). It appeared that other guests had taken liberties with their allowed space. Perhaps this needs an eye keeping on it.

Liked • Small, quiet camping field above
fishing lakes
• Good grass path around
perimeter for dog walking
• Grass kept short

Disliked • No bins on camping field - bit of a
steep walk to nearest bins which
were full and overflowing.
• Didn't affect us as we were self
contained, but the loos and
showers are quite a walk down
(and up!) a steep gravelly hill, so
worth bearing in mind if you have
mobility issues.

Excellent facilities & staff, great fishing. No complaints.
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Everything about the place is top notch. Staff are very friendly and the facilities are brilliant, showers work and are clean. I’ve stayed here 3 times with my son for weekends fishing and every time we leave he asks when we can go back. Always pop in for a toastie in the morning before we go fishing to get pellets/bait and food to feed the alpacas later in the day. Cheap prices for pegs, especially if you are camping. The camping site itself is in a great location, a short walk to any pool you want to fish, with a great view of nearby town. Staff will tackle any issue you have eg other people camping being loud at unreasonable hours. Fishing is great, never not caught and have had days where I couldn’t sit down without my or my son’s rod going with another fish on the line. Never used the WiFi as I’ve never had to but I do believe there is some in the cafe/reception area but mobile/5G connection is strong anyway.

We love it at Wassell Grove…
Camping pod (three person, no electricity)
Liked We love it at Wassell Grove and have booked for the same time next year before we checked out. It’s the perfect location for our family with children of mixed ages. The site is run by a lovely and helpful family too and we always feel so welcome - plenty to do nearby if you’re looking for a nice relaxed break away - highly recommend!

Lovely stay, despite neighbour that was to close for comfort
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Loved everything, I come here regularly, owners are great, when I want to escape the grind and when I just need peace, quiet, some beautiful grounds to walk and a good sleep, I always return here after venturing to other destinations.
Disliked The arrival of a person with his bike, that lacked utter common sense and space awareness. He literally pitched nearly on top of me, when there was enough room and space to pitch at a reasonable distance in the same area I was if necessary. This was nothing to do with the owners and it was not their fault. Just a Mr clueless, I didn't say anything as his lack of awareness or not care attitude didn't disturb my peace in reality, just invaded some personal space unnecessarily.
If the grounds were empty with no other people around, I would have had to address it as a solo female. Luckily, I felt safe although weary why he choose to pitch so close.

Genuinely excellent experience, highly recommend this campsite
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked The site is very small, but I count that as a good thing. I'm not a fan of campsites with bars, entertainment facilities etc etc. I prefer a minimal approach - a decent place to pitch your tent, clean toilets, hot showers, drinking water available. This site has all of those things. The owners are lovely people, very welcoming and the check in process is quick and easy. The ground on the site is a little hard in places, but seems to drain well. There are a couple of quite exposed pitches but if you're used to pitching tents with the weather and wind in mind that's not an issue. Drinking water easily accessed. Added bonus of approximately 20 alpacas which is a lovely sight when you first wake up! I stayed here twice and both times it was quiet at night. I went away a couple of times (overnight) and left the tent pitched and everything was still secure when I got back. I didn't try the cafe but it seemed quite popular with the fishing crowd. All in all, an excellent experience and I would absolutely stay here again.
Disliked These are VERY minor issues but I think they're worth letting people know about them. Firstly, the road into the site is quite potholey. Maybe not a huge issue in a car but I was on a motorbike and it took some skill in places to stay upright! Not a deal breaker at all, very manageable, but worth knowing. Secondly, the walk to the toilets/showers is around 150m I think, down a steepish hill. Personally this didn;t bother me, but if you have mobility issues (or you're just tired!) it's worth bearing in mind. Several people just drove down but that's less of an option when it gets dark (the site is not really lit at night). The walk down is lovely, the walk back can be a challenge if you're tired. But again - very minor issues.
