  • Peaceful glamping site on the border between Powys and Shropshire
  • Shrewsbury half an hour’s drive; Chirk Castle 50 minutes
  • Smart units with outdoor seating and hot tubs
Welcome (and croeso) to Welsh Border Glamping, a smart site in the peaceful Shropshire countryside, close to the border with Powys county in Wales. In addition to its attractive rural surroundings, this sleepy spot has a pretty convenient location: it is just under two miles from the A458, which takes you to Welshpool in about 15 minutes’ drive and to Shrewsbury in half an hour. All units are cosy and kitted out with a proper double bed (some can sleep extra guests, too); they are also dog-friendly, with one well-behaved four-legged friend allowed per unit. Tea- and coffee-making facilities are included, and there’s a spacious outdoor seating area with (here comes the cherry on the cake) a private hot tub for relaxing soaks. Each unit also has access to a private toilet and shower. The communal amenities block is the place to go for cooking facilities, as the communal kitchen is equipped with a cooker, microwave, plates, bowls, cutlery, glasses and assorted kit for self-catering days. The site is in an area with plenty of wildlife and very low levels of noise and light pollution, so it is a top spot to sit back, tune into the sights and sounds around you and look up at the starry skies after nightfall.

Warren camping pod (two person, hot tub)

Liked: The site was well thought out

Disliked: The hot tub was faulty and the owners attitude was far from polite or helpful.

The bathroom smelt awful, although clean unusable as a shower room due to this.

From the manager: I am disappointed with this review, as due to misuse of the hot tub was why it was broken, we were informed the hot tub wasn't working at 8.00pm Saturday night via email(emails aren't monitored all the time) if emergency we ask to be contact via phone - Sunday morning via text we were informed - day of departure. We were unable to fix the problem and had to get an engineer out. It's is also disappointing you didn't tell us about the bathroom, while staying here, as the bathroom is for your our private use so we don't go into the bathrooms until you depart. Considering you said via email you had a lovely stay... shame not reflected in the review. I can understand it was disappointing the hot tub wasn't working for the whole stay... but not everything can be fixed that quick.

Everything was perfect! Just a little thing I was not aware of about…

Warren camping pod (two person, hot tub)

Liked: Exceeded our expectations! Not sure the information quite sells it enough, but it meant we were in for a lovely surprise when we arrived! Individual bathrooms to each pod, the communal area has individual cupboards per pod and has a fully functioning kitchen (inc fridge freezer, oven, micro etc) our pod had a little fridge, kettle, tea and coffee and milk, even left us a bag of crisps! Everything is spotless, including the hot tub! Honestly, super peaceful weekend away. As well as being in the middle of some beautiful areas to visit!

Disliked: Honestly nothing!

Orchard camping pod (hot tub)

Liked: The communal area was brilliant, games, tv, all cutlery and plates provided.
Clean and well kept site.

Disliked: I wouldn’t recommend in the colder months with young children. Rain meant it was difficult to get back and too from the communal area and in and out of the pod and keeping it clean etc!

Local attractions

Those who are feeling active have an embarrassment of riches in this area, starting with Border Quad Trekking (10 minutes’ drive). After an introductory safety session, put on your helmet and just follow your leader up the hills and down the valleys. Prepare to get muddy. There are guided pony treks at Longmountain Centre (10 minutes) and water-based adventures at Drummond Outdoor Kayak and Canoe Centre (half an hour). Shrewsbury (half an hour) is known for The Quarry, a garden on the banks of the Severn with a vibrant flower garden (The Dingle), a lake and a bandstand, plus a play area and paddling pool. National Cycle Route 81 runs through this green area, loosely following the river west and east of the city. National Trust - Chirk Castle (50 minutes) started its life in the late 13th century as a forbidding border fortress, but over time it was remodelled and turned into an aristocratic family home. Today, its State Rooms house a collection of elegant furniture, family portraits and decorative objects.
