Super relaxing

  • Pub site with motorhome pitches on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • National Trust – Gunby Estate 15 minutes’ drive; Skegness 25 minutes
  • Lunchtime and evening menus and a fully-licensed bar; play area
Rocking up at The George and Dragon? Trips to the pub just got a whole lot lovelier, since this well-maintained site with motorhome pitches is right on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in the small village of Hagworthingham, and it has excellent views over the gorgeous local landscape. If you’re hungry, the pub has great lunchtime and evening menus to sample, as well as a fully-licensed bar for drinks and light bites, plus a play area to keep the kids busy. There is also a café in the village, and farm shops and supermarkets 10 minutes’ drive down the road, in the market town of Horncastle. It’s possible to rent a bike on site, so feel free to leave the car behind and explore the local area on two wheels. You can follow the trails in the Lincolnshire Wolds, check out the animal residents at Wolds Wildlife Park (40 minutes by bike, or 10 minutes’ drive) or amble around the grand grounds of Gunby Estate (one hour by bike, or 15 minutes by car), a splendid National Trust property. If you have thighs of steel, you can try cycling all the way to the coast and Skegness (one and a half hour by bike, or a 25-minute drive), where you can reward yourself with a dip in the North Sea.

Powered grass RV campsite

Liked: Very smart little campsite, pretty level grass pitch with EHU, right behind the pub, great shower block, lovely staff there, had a super evening meal in the bar with our two hounds. The Lincolnshire Wolds are beautiful. Full English breakfast available (even on a Sunday morning) in a cafe close by.

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: Stayed here twice this summer, once with 15 yo Grandson, and again with 11yo Granddaughter, oh yes and my crazy Springer spaniel!!! Fabulous little site, on a level field behind the pub..... only ourselves and one other motor home on each occasion. Lovely views over open fields and easy access to a great walk, including a Ford for the doggo to cool off in!
Shower block spotless and fab rain head showers.
Well placed for travel to lots of interesting places
HIGHLY recommend!!

Liked: The George & Dragon site is a simple but lovely grass plot at the rear of the pub.
We were one of only two vans on our stay so it wasn't busy. The showers and facilities were clean and more than adequate. Unfortunately the pub was shut as it was a Sunday afternoon when we arrived but Clare explained this was an error on the Pitchup site (since corrected I believe). We'd brought our own food so this wasn't a problem for us.

Disliked: There was quite a bit of road noise from the adjacent main road but not enough to spoil our stay.

Local attractions

The nature reserve at Snipe Dales (five minutes’ drive) is criss-crossed by woodland walks, wildflower meadows and streams. Walkers might spot wild orchids, colourful butterflies, woodpeckers and birds of prey here (especially around the Oak Wood area). Wander through the elegant rooms of early 18th-century Gunby Estate, Hall and Gardens – from the Library, with a blue-tiled fireplace, to the wood-panelled Music Room (complete with a grand piano), stopping by the Backstairs staircase to admire the delicate William Morris wallpaper. In addition to a Victorian walled garden, there is also a vast area of grounds with walking trails. With a wide sandy beach and a pier lined with arcades and food stalls, Skegness is a popular destination. Check out the rides at Skegness Pleasure Beach, or visit Natureland Seal Sanctuary, which rehabilitates orphaned seals, as well as being home to penguins, alpacas and meerkats.
