  • Small family-run site among five acres of green Lincs countryside
  • A mile from Sutton on Sea and within walking distance of Huttoft beach
  • Next to a riding centre and 20 minutes' drive from Skegness
Well now, this is a popular little place. 'Fab', 'beautiful' and 'brilliant' are but of a few of the plaudits that have been heaped on small, family-run and friendly South Farm Caravan Park, set deep in the Lincolnshire countryside a mile from colourful Sutton on Sea. Families, couples and solo travellers are all welcome here, and dogs would likely give the farm an approving woof too: many walks are nearby along the countryside lanes and fields, and the walks – and bike rides – of the Lincolnshire Wolds are very close by. The closest beach, Huttoft or Moggs Eye, has miles of dog-friendly sands for the pooch to let loose. If you think the kids would like to canter, riding lessons and a pony club are at the equestrian centre next door to the farm; if they tend more towards a seaside vibe, Skegness is about 20 minutes away. (And if after that you tend towards a gentler vibe, the long wide open sands of peaceful Huttoft beach are within walking distance of the farm.) Facilities at the farm include spotless shower and toilet blocks (these are based away from the pitches and require a walk) and a washing-up area. There's a small tea room open every day during the school holidays only and a games room.

Liked: Short walk to beach (15 mins) across country. Quiet site with a small amount of noise at times from road. Toilets only used a few times but generally clean and tidy. Wardens friendly and very helpful. Pitch sizes good.

Disliked: Could have bigger and better signage as we missed it the first time. Entrance is very tight if you come from Sutton way but if you come from Alford way then it’s easier but need a big swing out either way. Site is a little untidy, vans and trailers stored on site, seasonal caravans mucky which we felt brought the general outlook down. We asked if friends could visit us on site but were refused.

From the manager: Thanks for visiting.
You called me on the phone as you had pulled into the farm next door, I explained exactly where we were and you still came up the exit. You said you saw the tea room sign which is massive but still say there wasn’t enough signage. When you popped into the tea room to ask if you can have some visitors come onto site (clearly states no visitors when booking via pitch up) you openly admitted that you was going to fast and didn’t want to slow down to much because of traffic behind you but yet it’s our fault you missed us!!

No visitors are allowed, only people that you book in when you book via pitch up. This is stated upon your booking. We get very busy and do not have the parking space to accommodate.

Yes we do have 1 van (Luton) and a couple of trailers as we also own a bouncy castle and soft play business. The soft play trailer was out on the site for the children to use.

As for you saying the site is untidy, I do take offence to this as we do and have worked really hard to get where we are.

Not really sure what you mean by my seasonals being mucky? These wonderful people take pride in there caravans.

Clean site, friendly staff and good food.

Liked: The site was clean, and all staff were friendly. The food from the cafe was yummy, and as it was Easter weekend we also were able to have dinner as well as breakfast which was so nice not to have to cook.
Games room was good, we had a few games of snooker.

Liked: Very nice owners and warden's. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
Lovely location can walk to the beach from the campsite.

Disliked: Was given a double sided letter with all the rules of the campsite when arriving.
It's just a shame no one is making sure these rules are followed. No wardens checking, especially after 10pm which is supposed to be quiet time. Which is a shame as I would have given 5 starts for our stay if I didn't witness every rule being broken.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for staying with us.

Us as the owners walk down the site each night around 10.30pm and then the wardens walk down around 11.30/12pm and not once did any of us notice any rules being broken.
If you had of witnessed any rules being broken, it would have been appreciated if you had brought this to our attention while you were here so we could have dealt with it there and then but no, people like to leave it unit they leave and then give us a bad review for other people’s behaviour that could have been dealt with.

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Nice relaxed atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful staff/wardens/owners. All the facilities you need for a proper bit of the camping. Kids loved a little breakfast treat from the tea room every morning and you get a huge milk and the muffins are amazing dad. The food is good mind cannot fault it. Close to the beach and town. It's about half a mile over the fields and a mile and a half via road and path. Honest good value and we were lucky with the weather to. We were a party of one adult(me) and three kids aged 6 to 11. They loved the site and popping to the vending machine at the games room before bed was a nice treat. £1 for a twirl etc. They made loads of friends and there's a little park.

Disliked: Nothing we are going again in August. In regards to cleanliness the kids were mildly freaked out by the odd spider in the loos etc. I did explain it's the countryside but apparently spiders should be banned.

Camping pod (adults only)

Liked: We stayed in one of the 3 wooden camping pods, they are in a seperate part of the camp site to the tents, caravans etc. This is the 3rd time we have visited and we love it! The pod has a fridge, kettle, toaster, heater, mugs, wine glasses etc and a small table and chairs to soak up the morning sun/evening sun. It is very quiet here so we love bringing our dog, there is room outside the pod to tether him on a long lead and we know he can't get into a bother or disturb people. The pods are close to a drinking water tap and only 1 minutes walk from the toilets and showers. There is also a cafe only 1 min walk away on site. There are lots of lovely walks, there is a track by the dyke near the camp site that takes you to the beach, about 15 -20 minutes walk. We walk from here into Sutton-on-Sea where there are cafes, restaurants, bars, pubs, shops and lovely fish and chips. You can then walk further into Mablethorpe if you fancy where it is a bit more lively for families. The beach is fantastic for dogs but just check which parts you can go on with dogs from May, I think. If you want a quiet weekend away with lots of walking then I recommend these pods, I'm sure we will be back.

Disliked: For us this isn't a dislike but for others it maybe. There isn't much around the campsite, you need to be able walk about 30 minutes to get to the local shops, pubs etc. Or you can drive which is only 5 to 10 minutes. There is a part of the road without a pavement so be careful if walking at night.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The hosts were nice and it's really close to some gorgeous beaches.

Disliked: There wasn't anything wrong with the campsite as such, but the atmosphere wasn't very friendly and I was quite boxed in by static caravan type accommodation so not much scenery. The toilets were clean but the washing up area needed a good clean.

From the manager: Thank you for staying here at south farm caravan park and I’m sorry we wasn’t up to your standards.
A couple of things regarding your comment.
The atmosphere wasn’t great. There were plenty of other campers around you and us as the owners had a wonderful evening chatting with people. Just maybe others weren’t the problem.

Not really sure what you mean by boxed in by other static accommodation?
We have 3 static caravans on the site but they are located at the very top of the site and you was pitched at the bottom where all our pitch up bookings are pitched, which is a good 250 meters away from the static caravans.
If you mean the touring caravans that are here regularly, again they are not on top of you and you chose what pitch you’d like.

The washing up area.
I think you may have not heard when you were told, that the outside washing area was out of use as it hadn’t yet been plumbed in and that we only have the inside washing area available, which yes is small but clean and tidy.

Again thank you for staying with us.

Local attractions

This is a smashing spot for family and beach hols, with both Sutton on Sea and Huttoft beaches close by for colourful beach huts at the first and a peaceful relaxing vibe at the second. Skegness is an easy drive along the coast, and Mablethorpe and Ingoldmells are also easily accessible to the north and south. Among the many other activities near the farm are the ambles and pedals of the Lincolnshire Wolds or taking day trips to Lincolnshire's small market towns like Alford, where there's also a war museum and a theatre. Bargain hunters should also get along to one of Lincolnshire's many car boot sales, at Ingoldmells, Skegness and Mablethorpe on the coast and inland at Louth, Horncastle, Gainsborough and Hornbeach.
