  • Peaceful dog-friendly site in the Lincolnshire countryside
  • On the National Cycle Route 64, 20 minutes’ drive away from Lincoln
  • Well-stocked fishing pond surrounded by benches; lots of local walks
Sometimes you just want a hidey-hole somewhere with a well-stocked fishing pond, views over the countryside and an all-around peaceful vibe… and what a fitting place Camper UK Leisure Park would be. The well-kept site is set in 18 acres of the Lincolnshire countryside, right on the National Cycle Route 64 (a track which very, conveniently, leads the way to historic Lincoln). The city’s also a 20-minute drive from Camper UK Leisure Park for those heading that way on four wheels and not two. With a medieval cathedral and a castle with a Victorian prison and a copy of the Magna Carta, it’s a historical outing indeed. Of course, you might want to reserve an afternoon (or two, or three, or four) to lounge around by the site’s pond. Try your luck fishing for mirror or common carp (great for the novice, as well as the experienced angler) or take the short, raised walk around the pond and wildlife watch from the seats around the shore. For those who are feeling particularly energetic (and you just might be, with the excitement of a break in Lincolnshire fresh on your mind), there are numerous local walks and footpaths for days out hiking or dog walking. Yes, dogs are welcome here too. Facilities-wise, Camper UK Leisure Park has a handy set available. The modern centrally-heated facilities block has male, female and disabled toilets, washing-up facilities and showers. There’s also a handy separate utility room with two sinks and drainers, a fridge, a washing machine and a tumble dryer (this one requires a small fee) to make your stopover comfier.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite (large)

Liked: The site is very clean, looked after we'll and quiet. The toilet facilities are very good and clean and all are individual which is good. There a nice lake to walk around with the dogs and for fishing if that is what you enjoy. It's location is good only about 10 mins from Lincoln and 20 mins to newark. The staff are very friendly. We stayed on a fully serviced pitch which was perfect. We have booked to go again.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Great little site in the open Lincolnshire fields, perfect base for exploring Lincoln for a day. Van parking is viable still in The Lawns car park if you head in for a day.

Disliked: Wifi didn't reach the main field, but this is understandable.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Site was secluded, clean and well run. Water was very hot for washing dishes etc.

Disliked: Showers on a push button setting, not able to regulate temperature of water. Really surprised at how loud ducks and geese can be after dark.

Local attractions

With historic Lincoln ticked off, next up is historic Newark-on-Trent (half an hour’s drive). The market town has a 12th-century castle and an air museum with 65 different aircrafts. If that’s not quite enough history for you, Doddington Hall & Gardens (five minutes) is an Elizabethan manor house with walled gardens, a café and farm shop and the International Bomber Command Centre (25 minutes) traces the story of Lincoln’s Bomber Command. Swap in the museums for the sand if you feel like a lazy day on Lincolnshire’s east coast. Destinations like Ingoldmells and Skegness are an hour and 20 minutes’ drive away. It’s easy to get carried away with the amusements, so those wanting to get back to nature can take on the lakeside trails at Whisby Nature Park (10 minutes) or browse through Pennells Garden Centre Lincoln (10 minutes) Check out the schedule for Newark Showground (20 minutes) for fairs, festivals and events throughout the year. The Lincolnshire Show Ground (20 minutes) has local crafts and livestock or equine classes.
