What customers say

A tranquil, well-kept rural spot. Praised for its top-notch, clean, and unique restrooms. Friendly owners are a highlight. Downsides: some sloped pitches, narrow spots for awnings, and occasional minor facility hiccups.

Liked What a wonderful place to stay. The facilities are fantastic, particularly the toilets and showers. The hosts were quick to respond to our queries and requests. Peaceful and yet close enough to walk to the nearest village. We will definitely return.

Disliked Difficult to pitch our awning as the hard standing was raised from the grass.

Liked Lovely little site with possibly the cleanest showers and toilets we have came across.
A couple of pubs/Indian restaurant in the village an easy 25 mins walk for us mid 60 year olds by road (the main road has a pavement so no problem).
EHU worked fine for us. Extra long hosepipe supplied to make filling up easier.
We booked for one night but stayed for 2, happy days.
Owners eager to note of any problems/issuses and feedback so I am pretty sure they are willing to listen and rectify if they think necessary.
Would certainly stay again.

Liked This is a stunning site. Remote and peaceful setting and even though pitches are quite close together and most of them were booked up it never felt crowded. The showers are incredible! Best I've ever found on a campsite! The micro shop was a lovely touch and well stocked. Would definitely recommend.

Liked O Toilets and showers excellent - very clean and showers were very powerful. Peaceful site though I’m not sure this would be the case if it was full. Nicely landscaped tent pitches. Good dog walk. Pretty at night with strings of lights.
O Owners very responsive to texts - they delivered a hose pipe within minutes so that we could fill our onboard water tank. I mentioned I had trouble closing the door to the ladies and the next time I used the facilities it had been fixed.
O The walk to Houghton across the fields took us an hour (our sense of direction isn’t the best even with instructions 😘) The Old Black Horse serves lovey food at reasonable prices, staff are very friendly and dogs are welcome in the Snug. A lovely man in St Catherine’s Church let us use their loo and was very happy to share the history of the 800 year old church with us. We chose to stick to the main road (A47) on the way back (there is a good footpath to Galsby Lane) which was a lot quicker.

Disliked O Enclosed by trees so no view unless you go to the high ground or leave site
O Pitches are very narrow and not all have a large enough grassed area to put up an awning. The gravel on most pitches is enclosed in wooden planks which are higher than the grass which can make the transition from the van to the grass quite tricky.
O There was an issue with wasps during our stay which Glenn was aware of and he indicated that it may be because of the bins. Luckily we have bug blinds on the windows so we were able to open the windows to keep the van cool. Had we not had these it would have been a nightmare! The bins are at the side of the amenities hut and you have to walk past them to get to the ladies toilet. Maybe moving the bins to the entrance/exit which is common practise at a lot of the sites we visit would be better.

Local attractions

Getting out to see more of your rural surroundings should be easy enough here, as there are some great walks in the vicinity, along with those bike rides on National Cycle Route 63. Rutland Water (20 minutes’ drive) is another good place for a walk or a bike ride (there’s a path that goes all the way round the lake), and you can also play golf, try your hand at sailing or bounce across the inflatable aqua park. If the kids are keen to meet cute animals, head along to Windmill Farm Park (15 minutes) for indoor and outdoor animals, play areas and a café. Bird on the Hand Falconry Experiences (15 minutes) makes a great day out for those keen to get up close to the big birds. Over in Leicester (20 minutes) there are plenty of options for a day out (especially if you need rainy-day activities) – the city is home to the National Space Centre as well as the Retro Computer Museum and King Richard III Visitor Centre.
