Nice and warm

  • Quiet tree-lined site with direct access to Cossington nature reserve
  • Adventure woodland on site; pub and café five minutes' walk away
  • Basic facilities, with private pool sessions available to book
Splendid simplicity is what it’s all about at Cossiwild Camping – this Leicestershire site is a place where you can really embrace nature without having to travel too far from urban amenities. Leicester city centre is a mere 20-minute drive from this Soar Valley site, but you’ll feel a world away in this quiet spot flanked by open meadows and mature trees. It’s the kind of place where you’ll be woken by the dawn chorus and may well spot a buzzard gliding overhead or hear a woodpecker going about its business in the woods. The presence of nature on site is partly due to its location next to Cossington Meadows nature reserve, a wetland area with resident and migratory birds. You can walk straight out onto the reserve from the site, making this an excellent spot for walkers, runners, wildlife-hunting kids and keen birdwatchers alike. When the kids aren’t out looking for bugs and birds, they can be playing on site – there’s always space for a ball game, and they’ll have access to play kit including a giant trampoline and a rope swing. There’s also an outdoor pool on site that’s available to guests at certain times – ask about booking a private pool session if you’d like to take a dip. Facilities on site are basic, just stretching to compost toilets and picnic tables, but you’ll be allowed to bring a barbecue or light up a campfire for some alfresco cooking. Handily, the village of Cossington is only five minutes’ walk away for a pub and café, and there are shops in both Sileby and Rothley (both five minutes’ drive).

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked It was very easy to find. Great instructions were sent when we booked. We weren't sure which areas we could go in so stuck to the main camp field and most of the woods. Found all the fun bits for the kids to play on. Loos were an adventure 😅😅 took me back to my Glastonbury days.

Data signal was fine... thank God.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Parking was great! Kids loved the rope swing, trampoline, garden & horses in the nearby field. Nearby restaurants 5 min walk was really handy! Running water, shower & fire pits to hire were a bonus. Staff extremely friendly & helpful. Even got our kids airplane out the tree!

Disliked Toilets! Dirty & small. If toilet block could be installed it would be perfect

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Glad to see you had a great time.
We have a composting toilet, as stated on our description. Appreciate it's not the same as a permanent toilet block but it's simple not possible to build one here. Your point is taken nonetheless and we try to do the best with what we have.
Please come again, but note disposable barbecues are not allowed as they burn the grass. Expensive too, about £5, and for the same cost you can hire our fire pit and grill tray with as much wood as you like.

Liked Lovely cosy campsite with a nature reserve walk, a heated pool and your basic facilities. Harry was lovely made us feel very welcome and was super helpful. Was a lovely couple days away, would definitely visit again !

Disliked Only improvement i could think of would be having showers put in, toilets, sink etc. just so we can stay a bit longer as the rest was so nice.
